JOB PURPOSE:
We're growing our own integrated SuDS design-and-build business, which means the things you design don't just sit in a report, they get built.
The consultant will work from one of the EPG offices (Warrington or Bingley) or remotely, as well as completing site visits. As a SuDS/Civil Engineer, you will lead the design and implementation of sustainable urban drainage systems (SuDS), undertake Flood Risk Assessments (FRAs), and develop detailed designs for a range of projects.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Lead the design, specification, and implementation of sustainable urban drainage systems (SuDS) for a variety of projects, including residential, commercial, and infrastructure developments.
- Conduct and review Flood Risk Assessments (FRAs) in compliance with current UK legislation and planning policy.
- Develop and review detailed drainage designs using appropriate software (e.g., MicroDrainage, Civil 3D, InfoDrainage, Site3D, FLOW).
- Manage and mentor junior engineers, providing technical guidance and ensuring the delivery of high-quality design work.
- Prepare technical reports, design documents, and project proposals.
- Ensure designs adhere to industry best practices, national standards (e.g., CIRIA SuDS Manual, Building Regulations), and company quality assurance procedures.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring deadlines and budgets are met.
- Stay updated on the latest developments in SuDS, drainage design, and water management policies and standards.
- Maintain and develop key client, supplier and regulator relationships, always maintaining EPG’s industry standing as experts in our field, and providers of cost-effective and scientifically robust solutions.
- Relish opportunities and work proactively when undertaking research in the course of work at EPG. Contribute to, or lead on, development of alternative methods of working, or writing industry publications.
- Support the EPG management team in improvements to our operational practices, in areas of data management, digital software, health, safety, environment and quality, and training and staff development.
PERSON SPECIFICATION:
- Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering, or another related subject.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience (depending on level) in SuDS design, flood risk management, and drainage design.
- Chartered or working towards Chartered status (e.g., ICE, CIWEM).
- Proficient in the use of drainage design software (e.g., MicroDrainage, Civil 3D, InfoDrainage, FLOW, or Site3D).
- In-depth knowledge of UK SuDS legislation, planning policies, and design standards (e.g., CIRIA C753).
- Strong project management skills, including experience managing multiple projects concurrently.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to prepare clear, concise technical reports, drawings and present findings to clients and stakeholders.
- Experience in mentoring and developing junior staff (for Senior Applicants only)
- A desire to take a novel approach to problem solving.
- Excellent word processing and excel skills along with broad IT proficiency.
ADDITIONAL DESIRABLE ATTRIBUTES:
- A full UK driving license.
- Experience with Tuflow, ICM or another 1D/2D hydraulic modelling package.
- A strong external profile and network and/or experience on working groups or committees in the industry.
- Highway Design (2D/3D)
- Geotechnical Experience
- Experience preparing section agreements (S38, S104, S185, S278)
