About the Role
We are looking for a technically skilled and highly organised individual to join our Engineering team as a Technician for Electrical/Electronic Engineering. This is a hands-on, varied role at the heart of our engineering provision, supporting learners and teaching staff across Level 2, Level 3, and T Level Engineering programmes.
You will be responsible for the day-to-day operation and preparation of our Electrical/Electronic Engineering laboratory, including setting up and closing down the lab, preparing resources and consumables for practical sessions, supporting learners with practical activities such as soldering, circuit assembly, PCB manufacture, and circuit testing, and maintaining the lab environment to the highest standards of safety and organisation.
In addition, you will take ownership of the Electric Vehicle and diagnostics section of our Motor Vehicle workshop, ensuring all specific equipment and safety systems are maintained, serviced, and ready to support our growing curriculum.
Requirements
Must-Have:
- A Level 3 qualification (or above) in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Mechatronics, or a closely related discipline, or demonstrable equivalent industry experience
- Proven practical experience in an electrical, electronic, or electromechanical engineering environment
- Experience of setting up, maintaining, and managing an engineering laboratory or workshop environment
- Experience of stock control, resource preparation, and organising consumables and equipment for practical sessions
- A strong understanding of health and safety regulations relevant to engineering environments (COSHH, PUWER, HASAWA) and experience of carrying out risk assessments
- Experience of working with or supporting others in a practical engineering setting
- A relevant qualification or training in EV/high-voltage systems, or a genuine commitment to achieving one with college support
Nice-to-Have:
- Experience of working with Electric Vehicle systems, high-voltage components, or EV charging infrastructure
- Experience of supporting practical sessions including soldering, circuit assembly, PCB manufacture, and circuit testing
- Familiarity with T Level, BTEC, or Level 2/3 Engineering programme requirements
- Experience of procurement, supplier liaison, and evaluating quotes for engineering equipment and consumables
- Previous experience in a Further Education or training provider environment
- A health and safety qualification (e.g. IOSH or equivalent)
