Our Scotland Architectural team is looking to hire an Architectural Technician / Technologist to support on various projects working within a multi-disciplinary design team with extensive experience of detailed design delivery in life science, defence or custodial sector.
About You
As an Architectrual Technician / Technologist, you are expected to have a strong track record in at least one of the sectors BakerHicks operates in, namely Life Sciences, Public Sector inc. Custodial & Defence, Aviation or Power. You will ideally be or working towards becoming a Chartered Technologist and be able to demonstrate a strong technical understanding of architectural detailing, construction sequencing and be able to produce, compliant, well considered, buildable solutions based on best practice and manufacturers guidance. You will be experienced in the use of BIM authoring software, preferably Autodesk Revit.
Key Purpose
- To be responsible for the delivery of work packages / project deliverables under the supervision of a Senior Architect or Senior Technician, with the ability to manage your own workload as well as coordinating with the wider project and Architectural discipline team.
- To have a working knowledge of current, relevant regulatory standards to allow the development of compliant design solutions.
- Assist in the successful delivery of projects including gaining statutory approvals.
Responsibilities
- Be responsible for the production of fully co-ordinated discipline specific 3D models, schematic, general arrangement and detailed drawings in accordance with the relevant standards and procedures
- Ensure quality of delivery when producing or updating deliverables to internal and/or customer standards.
- Work closely with other members of the design team to deliver safe, efficient and buildable solutions.
- Communicate and collaborate with engineers, technicians from other disciplines, other consultants, etc.
- Ensure thorough checking and accuracy of their own work and the work of developing members of the team under their supervision, in line with company QA procedures
- Review specialist subcontractor's/supplier's production drawings for technical compliance with design intent
- Input to the review specialist subcontractor's/supplier's production drawings and models for technical compliance with design intent
- Production of model outputs, such as schedules, room data sheets etc.
- Preparation of COBie and asset information.
- Production of NBS Chorus Specification clauses.
- Integration and coordination of multi-discipline technical design, including structure, fabric and services.
Knowledge, Experience and Qualifications
Essential
- HND or foundation degree in architectural technology, construction or the built environment.
- Ideally working towards CIAT accreditation for architectural technology.
- Eligible to pass criteria for security clearance and airside pass applications.
- Full UK Driving Licence
- High level of proficiency in the use of Autodesk Revit 3D software and a working knowledge of Autodesk AutoCAD 2D as a minimum.
- Ability to work under the supervision of a Senior Technician to produce 2D & 3D deliverables from concept through to fully co-ordinated detailed design
- Knowledge of current UK technical standards/publications and legislation requirements
- Demonstratable knowledge of the construction process and co-ordination experience.
- Effectively manage own time across multiple tasks and prioritise effectively to meet deadlines.
- Good communication style and interpersonal skills, particularly the ability to negotiate both internally and externally to the team
- CAD experience in either life science, custodial or defence sector
- Knowledge of CDM regulations
Desirable
Working knowledge of one or more of the following software:
- COBie
- NBS Chorus
- Dynamo
- Autodesk ACC / Forma
- Twinmotion

The successful candidate must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate level of security clearance or assurance level for this role, in line with client and sector requirements.
In some cases, additional nationality or residency criteria may also apply due to specific client or national security obligations.
