Full job description

Sheet Metal Worker

Morning shift or Day shift

Mornings, Monday to Thursday 6am to 2pm, Friday 6am to 1pm

Days, Monday to Thursday 7am to 4pm, Friday 7am to 12pm

Job Summary:

To produce complex sheet metal details, either by hand or using machines listed below. Ability to read and understand complex drawings and work instructions. Knowledge of sheet metal tools and equipment. Excellent hand-eye coordination, strong attention and to detail to undertake assembly work.
To have skills to use sheet metal working equipment, i.e. guillotine, fly press, rollers, shrinkers/stretchers, rubber presses, drills, hand tools, and various types of hammers.
To understand basic welding principles.
To have the skills to self-inspect any operation carried out using measuring equipment such as height gauge, Vernier Caliper, plug gauges, and checking fixtures and blueprint lofts.
Examine drawings and specifications to assess job requirement.
Use templates, measuring instruments and tools to mark out layout lines and reference points.
Use hand or machine tools to bend, roll, fold, press and hand form cut sheet metal on bench fixtures.
Assemble prepared parts and join them by welding, brazing or riveting.
Finish product by grinding, filling, cleaning, and polishing, ensuring parts are defect free.
Repair damaged metal parts such as aluminum, stainless steel sheet, tubes and machined parts by correcting distortion from welding, brazing and/or heat treatment.
Check final product to ensure conformity with specifications and drawings and work to the Rules of Quality and Rules of Safety.

Primary Responsibilities:

Utilize and interpret blueprints to determine how and where to fabricate, assemble and produce sheet metal products.
Measure, mark dimensions and lay out material to be installed using tools such as scribes, rulers, height gauge, Vernier Caliper, calculators, and squares.
Preparing sheet metal parts for brazing and welding, ensuring work is done carefully and bonds will last.
The ability to understand and use shrinkers/stretchers, using various hammers to form sheet metal parts to forming fixtures.
The ability to marry formed parts to drilling fixture and carry out hand drilling to fixtures.
Use hand and power tools to trim, buff, smooth, file and grind metal surfaces and joints of parts that have been assembled to ensure safety and a seamless appearance.
Select the appropriate type and gauge of sheet metal to be used in projects according to specifications.
To ensure safety is a priority on the job during all activities, including using tools and installing and fabricating metal.
To ensure work is carried out in accordance with work card instruction and associated drawings and specifications.
To comply with Quality work instructions.
To work in a safe manner to satisfy Health and Safety legislation and to avoid accident or injury to people, machinery, or property.
Carrying out other such duties as may be reasonably required within the jobholder's capabilities consistent with the terms and conditions of employment.

Experience and Education:

NVQ and City and Guilds Levels, 1, 2, and 3 Fabrication and Welding or equivalent, i.e. Engineering Production (Fabrication), Q1027431 EDEXCEL Level 3 BTech competencies Welding and Fabrication
The ability to carry out all the above activities at the highest level
Preferred 2 to 4 years of continuous sheet metal experience minimum, in the last 5 years
