Pobl is an established Cardiff-based digital agency doing work we’re genuinely proud of, and we’re growing. We’re looking for an experienced full-stack developer to join us for the next stage.
You’ll build websites, platforms and web apps for clients across the public, third and private sectors, taking real ownership of projects from planning and build through to launch and ongoing improvement. The work covers everything from WordPress and Craft CMS sites to Shopify stores and React builds, so there’s plenty of variety, but the constant is that you’ll see your work through properly.
We’re looking for someone who is comfortable across the stack, confident working with hosting environments, and happy to take responsibility for the technical details that keep projects running well. You’ll be a trusted technical point of contact for clients, working alongside a talented team that takes the work seriously.
What you'll be doing
- Building quality websites, platforms and web apps across tools such as Bedrock/Sage WordPress, Craft CMS, Shopify and React.
- Looking after hosting and server environments, helping to keep live sites secure, stable and performing well.
- Taking ownership of technical delivery across client projects, and being a trusted technical point of contact for clients when they need guidance or support.
- Working closely with fellow developers, designers, marketers, and project leads to make sure the technical work supports the wider client goal.
- Improving the way we work, from internal systems and reusable components to deployment processes and delivery methods. If you spot a better way of doing something, we’ll want to hear it.
Experience
Over three years in a professional environment is desirable, but we know this area changes quickly, so we’re open to applicants with different backgrounds and levels of experience.
Essentials required for the role
- Proven commercial experience as a web developer.
- Strong PHP skills, and comfortable picking up new languages and frameworks.
- Experience working with CMS and e-commerce platforms, especially WordPress, Shopify, Craft CMS or similar.
- Experience managing hosting environments, server setups and the ongoing health of live websites.
- A good understanding of databases, including writing efficient queries and working with structured data.
- Confidence using Git and modern deployment workflows.
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to investigate issues, make sensible decisions and keep several projects moving.
- Clear communication skills, especially when explaining technical matters to clients or non-technical team members.
Desirable
- Experience with modern frameworks and tools such as Laravel, React, Vue or Node.js.
- Experience with cloud hosting platforms such as AWS, Azure or DigitalOcean.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and containerisation tools such as Docker or Trellis.
- An understanding of web performance optimisation, accessibility (WCAG) and SEO/GEO.
- Previous experience in a digital agency or similar client-facing environment.
What we offer you
- Generous holidays: 28 days personal leave, bank holidays and an additional end-of-year office shutdown, estimated at around 40 days in total each year.
- Bonus scheme: an annual discretionary bonus on top of your salary.
- Company pension scheme.
- Flexible working hours between 8:00am and 6:30pm.
- Hybrid working, with optional work-from-home days on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
- Free on-site parking.
- Accessible office building.
- On-site shower facilities.
- Company events.
- Varied work across different clients, sectors and platforms.
- Opportunities to develop your skills and grow with the agency.
- A supportive team around you, with people who care about doing good work.
Salary
We’re open to speaking with developers at different stages of their career, so we haven’t set a fixed salary band for this role. Salary will be discussed based on experience, technical ability and the range of skills you can bring to Pobl.
About Pobl
Pobl is a digital agency based in Cardiff, Wales, working with organisations across the public, private and third sectors.
Our name means “people” in Welsh, and that shapes how we work. We create digital work that helps organisations communicate, grow and improve how they operate. That can mean creating brands, building websites, developing platforms, designing campaigns, improving customer journeys, creating marketing assets, supporting e-commerce growth, or helping clients make better use of their data and content.
We’re a small, experienced team of developers, designers, strategists, marketers and content specialists. Everyone works closely together, which means our developers are involved in more than just code. Design, UX, content, accessibility, hosting, performance, marketing and long-term support all connect here.
Our aim is to keep growing as one of Wales’ most trusted digital agencies, while staying close, practical and useful to our clients. We’re looking for people who want ownership, variety and the chance to make a visible impact.
How we work
This is a full-time role, working Monday to Friday. Our standard working day is 9:00am to 5:30pm, including a one-hour lunch break, with some flexibility around start and finish times between 8.00am and 6.30pm.
The team works from our Cardiff office three days a week, with optional work-from-home days on Tuesdays and Thursdays. As this is a hybrid role, applicants will need to be within a realistic commuting distance of Cardiff.
Right to work
Applicants must have the right to work in the UK before employment begins. We are not currently able to offer visa sponsorship for this role.
