About the Role:
Bristol is one of the UK’s fastest-growing hubs for geospatial innovation, infrastructure engineering, and advanced data-driven mapping. At Geodetic ISL Geospatial Solutions Ltd, we apply that same standard of precision to every project we deliver. We build and deliver high-accuracy geospatial and GIS solutions that support major infrastructure, transport, utilities, and environmental programs across the UK.
We are looking for a Principal GIS Consultant – Infrastructure & Mapping Projects who can take ownership of complex geospatial delivery and technical direction. You are not just processing spatial data—you are shaping how infrastructure decisions are made through geospatial intelligence. You will lead critical GIS projects from concept through delivery, acting as the technical authority and trusted advisor to clients and internal teams.
You are the bridge between engineering requirements and geospatial solutions that are accurate, scalable, and decision-ready.
Why Work With Us?
The Environment:
We operate in a professional, collaborative setting in Bristol’s business district, surrounded by engineering, tech, and consultancy firms. We value precision, clarity, and technical excellence in everything we do.
Technical Ownership:
You are trusted to lead. From day one, you will have responsibility for shaping GIS architecture, workflows, and delivery standards across infrastructure projects.
Modern Geospatial Stack:
We work with industry-leading GIS and spatial technologies including ArcGIS, QGIS, spatial databases, remote sensing tools, and cloud-based geospatial platforms.
Impactful Work:
Your work directly supports real-world infrastructure projects—transport networks, utilities planning, environmental mapping, and national-scale developments.
Growth & Leadership:
Clear progression into senior leadership or technical director-level roles, with opportunities to shape company-wide geospatial strategy.
Key Responsibilities:
Project Leadership:
Lead end-to-end GIS delivery for infrastructure and mapping projects, ensuring accuracy, scalability, and timely execution.
Geospatial Solutions Design:
Develop spatial data models, analysis workflows, and mapping outputs tailored to complex infrastructure requirements.
Technical Oversight:
Define geospatial standards, ensure QA/QC compliance, and maintain consistency across datasets and deliverables.
Team Mentorship:
Guide and support GIS analysts, technicians, and junior consultants, improving technical capability across the team.
Stakeholder Collaboration:
Work closely with engineers, planners, and clients to translate technical requirements into GIS-driven solutions.
Data Integration:
Oversee integration of GIS with CAD, BIM, remote sensing, and external spatial datasets.
Project Support & Strategy:
Contribute to proposals, technical documentation, and solution design for new infrastructure bids.
What We Are Looking For:
Experience:
8+ years in GIS, geospatial engineering, or spatial data consultancy, including senior or principal-level responsibility.
Technical Expertise:
Strong experience with GIS platforms such as ArcGIS, QGIS, and spatial database systems (PostGIS or similar).
Industry Knowledge:
Background in infrastructure, utilities, transport, civil engineering, or environmental mapping projects.
Leadership Ability:
Experience mentoring or leading technical teams in a project delivery environment.
Problem-Solving Mindset:
Ability to translate complex spatial and engineering requirements into clear geospatial solutions.
Communication Skills:
Confident in presenting technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Education:
Degree in GIS, Geography, Geospatial Science, Engineering, or related discipline.
