About the role

The National Heart and Lung Institute are delighted to seek applications for a 12 month Clinical Research Fellow post in interstitial lung disease. The successful candidate will be strongly encouraged to undertake a post-graduate degree during the post.

The candidate will be supervised by Professor Philip Molyneaux coordinate a funded observational study aimed at understanding acute exacerbations of fibrotic lung disease.

What you would be doing

To work with the principal investigators to screen and enrol participants into an observational clinical trial, carry out baseline and follow-up visits and collect and record data in an accurate and systematic way.

To complete and comply with reporting and progress requirements as requested by the funder.

To work with the principal investigators to complete and update applications and reports to appropriate regulatory and ethical bodies.

To work with the trial statistician and colleagues to complete trial data analysis in a robust and scientific manner.

To present findings to colleagues at internal and external meetings (travelling within the UK and abroad).

To draft publications for submission to peer reviewed journals.
The post holder will be responsible for accurate record keeping and documentation of results, and for preparing research reports and papers arising from his/her research.

What we are looking for

This job is aimed at individuals who are at the final stages of their respiratory training and wish to receive further clinical training in interstitial lung disease and undertake a PhD. The successful applicant will coordinate an observational study in fibrotic lung disease aimed at capturing, phenotyping and understanding acute exacerbations. The focus will be understanding the infective drivers of these events, using viral PCR and bacterial 16S qPCR, and biomarker identification.
