A seasonal position has become available for two Beach wardens to work within the Parish of Dymchurch on the foreshore and seawall from Monday 20th July until Friday 4th September 2026. Applicants will need to be available every weekend throughout the contract and will work a weekday shift pattern. Working hours will be 11 am until 5.30 pm, with a half-hour unpaid break.
If successful at this stage, you must be available to attend an interview on Monday, 6th July, at the Dymchurch Parish Council offices.
Applicants must be able to demonstrate commitment and enthusiasm for community safety, environmental issues, and the promotion of tourism.
The post is non-confrontational. Although you will be expected to advise members of the public about safety at the beach and when entering the sea, you will not be expected to enter the sea to carry out any rescues. You will also be expected to be aware of local byelaws governing the beach and to educate members of the public about these laws. A full description of duties is shown below.
Excellent customer care and communication skills are essential for this post.
Successful applicants will be expected to work outdoors on the beach and coastline for several hours a day to carry out their duties and therefore need to be physically fit to perform this role. They will need to be highly visible and accessible to members of the public
Applicants will be expected to engage with any training offered to support the role, and due to the working environment, undertake a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

JOB DESCRIPTION AND DUTIES
· To provide a visible presence to users of the beach and seawall
· Monitoring the beach conditions and weather forecasts, and advising the public of any hazards or restrictions.
· Advising and educating the public on beach rules ,regulations and byelaws , such as no littering, no dogs, and reporting to the appropriate authority where necessary
· Providing first aid and emergency assistance to anyone in need, and contacting the relevant authorities if necessary.
· To notify the District Council of any Dangerous objects on the beach
· To liaise with the emergency services if required for example- emergency at sea, illegal landings at the beach.
· Maintaining the cleanliness and orderliness of the beach facilities and equipment- Signs and rescue equipment, AED, reporting of overflowing bins and damage to the structure of the seawall. This will include some litter picking and cleaning down of picnic benches in the area of the slipway.
· To ensure the Beach Clean Station is stocked with refuse bags and litter pickers
· Educating the public about the marine environment and wildlife and promoting conservation and sustainability practices.
· To ensure the good order and cleanliness of the Beach wardens’ room at the kiosk.
· To be responsible for the display of flags on the Parish Councils Flagpoles
· To be a point of contact from members of the public for lost children and other concerns and provide an initial liaison with the emergency services
· Issuing of lost children’s bands
· To maintain a log of incidents in the provided logbook
· To report to the Parish Clerk as your supervisor
· To support the Parish Council in any additional ad hoc duties where carrying out your core duties are not practicable.
