Job Title: Driver/Chargehand

Salary: £37,980-£40,556 (dependent on experience)
Basis: Full time, Fixed term contract (2 years)
Hours: 45 hours per week Monday-Friday

About the Role
We are looking to recruit someone with a full HGV Class 2/C & E driving licence to help us cover a variety of duties within Refuse & Recycling.

As an HGV Driver you will undertake the collection of waste and recycling within the borough of Reigate and Banstead. You will be responsible for supporting and directing the crew to ensure safe, efficient, and high quality waste collection services for residents.

About the Person

Full clean UK HGV Class 2 (Category C & E) licence
Valid CPC and Digi Tacho Card (preferred)
A ‘can do’ attitude
Good communication and teamwork skills
Ability to perform manual handling as part of the role
Have experience in offering excellent customer service
A high level of health and safety awareness
Able to deal with a physically demanding job, working outdoors in all weathers
Previous driving experience of Refuse Collection Vehicle is desirable and preferred - full induction training will be provided

Local Government Reorganisation
Reigate and Banstead Borough Council is part of the government’s plans for Local Government Reorganisation (LGR) scheduled to take place in April 2027. This means the current two-tier system, where services are split between Surrey County Council and district and borough councils like Reigate, will be replaced with two unitary councils made up of East and West Surrey, which will handle all local services. Reigate and Banstead Borough Council will form part of the new East Surrey unitary authority.

Although this may lead to some uncertainty for anyone considering a role with us, this process will take some time and during that time we still need to provide services. When local government is reorganised, most staff will transfer to the new council(s) which may offer additional opportunities for career development and variety as part of a larger organisation.
