Role Overview
This dual-focused role is responsible for CNC Milling programming, setting, and operating to produce high-quality precision components, while also mentoring and supporting apprentices within the manufacturing environment. The role involves troubleshooting on the shop floor, promoting safe working practices, and contributing to a culture of quality, continuous improvement, and skills development.
Role Purpose
The purpose of this role is to operate as a highly skilled CNC Milling Machinist with expertise in programming, setting, and operating CNC machinery to manufacture high-quality precision components in line with production and quality standards.
In this dual-focused position combining technical machining responsibilities with apprenticeship mentoring and development. The role holder will be responsible for programming and setting machinery, supporting efficient shop floor operations, troubleshooting manufacturing issues, and ensuring adherence to safety, quality, and operational procedures.
In addition, the role will play a key part in mentoring and coaching apprentices, sharing hands-on engineering knowledge and best practices to support the development of future talent. The position will contribute to fostering a positive culture of safety, continuous improvement, precision, and professional development across the manufacturing environment.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
· To program, set and operate CNC Milling machines to Produce High Quality Manufactured parts in a timely and safety conscious way.
· Working to drawings with a variety of materials and manufacturing processes.
· Supervise trainee setups, providing a safety net while allowing them to build practical problem-solving skills.
· Setting & Operating Manual Machinery plus a wide variety of hand tools.
· Working independently or as part of a team.
· Total preventative maintenance
· Communicate effectively with CNC setters, operators, supervisors and Manufacturing manager to ensure smooth workflow.
Measurement and Deliverables
· Working within timescales and acceptable tolerances.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

Technical Requirements -
E: Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, and technical specifications.
Systems Requirements -
E: Fanuc, G-codes
E: Haas Controller
D: Edge Cam
Knowledge -
E: Knowledge of Milling Feeds and speeds for various materials
E: Knowledge of Measuring tools (steel rules, tape measures, calipers, gages, micrometres)
E: Knowledge on all G-code commands to perform modification on machines if required and ensure compliance to all specifications for all finished components.
Qualifications -
E: GCSE Mathematics
E: GCSE English
D: City & Guilds qualifications CNC related
Experience –
E: Excellent communication skills with the patience and ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly.
E: Experience coaching, mentoring, and supporting apprentices within a manufacturing or engineering environment.
E: Ability to transfer technical knowledge and develop practical machining skills in others.
E: Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to provide guidance, feedback, and support.
E: Proven ability to promote safe working practices and quality standards within a workshop environment.
E: Experience as a Milling Machine Programmer, Setter & Operator
D: Previous experience in a CNC Milling Programmer role for 5 years
Shift Pattern
Monday - Thursday 7.00am - 4.00pm
Friday - 7.00am - 12.00pm
Pay: £17.00-£18.50 per hour
