West Mercia Youth Justice Service operates across Herefordshire, Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin and Worcestershire, covering a youth population of approximately 112,800 (10 to 17 year olds). The service is hosted by the Office of the West Mercia Police and Crime Commissioner on behalf of the four local authorities and is currently the only youth justice service in such a hosting arrangement nationally. Services are delivered from multi-disciplinary teams aligned to the four local authority areas.
WMYJS has a dedicated Restorative Justice team who provide support to victims and offer children the opportunity to engage with Restorative Practice interventions whether they have been referred to the Service through the Courts or directly by the Police as part of a diversionary approach.
The main purpose of the Restorative Justice Officer role is to support children to develop a pro-social identity by helping them to engage in reparative activities, to develop beneficial interactions with others and to understand the implications of their offending with appropriate support.
To support children in the completion of direct or indirect restorative approaches to help the child to move forward by understanding and learning from the impact of their actions on the victim and community.
The Restorative Justice Officer role is a field based.
This role is also available on a part time basis for 2 candidates – 18.5 hours per week (Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday morning or Wednesday afternoon, Thursday and Friday but there could be some flexibility.)
