Purpose of the Role
The Lead Mathematics Teacher will be responsible for delivering high-quality, autism-informed teaching in Mathematics to pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and associated needs across Key Stage 3 and 4.
The post holder will adapt the KS2-4 curriculum to meet the individual needs of pupils in a small-class specialist setting, ensuring learning is accessible, meaningful, and ambitious while supporting pupils’ communication, emotional regulation, independence, and wellbeing.
Significant experience of working with and supporting pupils with ASC is essential.
Poplar House School is seeking a passionate and skilled Lead Mathematics Teacher to join our specialist provision.
This is an exciting opportunity for a qualified teacher with strong subject knowledge and experience supporting pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and associated needs. You will deliver high-quality, adapted teaching in small classes, creating a calm, structured and engaging learning environment where pupils can thrive academically, socially and emotionally.
You will:
- Plan and deliver ambitious, autism-informed maths lessons
- Adapt learning to meet a wide range of needs
- Support pupil progress, communication, emotional regulation and independence
- Work closely with teaching assistants, therapists, families and the wider school team
- Contribute to EHCP outcomes, reviews and wider curriculum development
We are looking for someone who:
- Holds QTS
- Has experience teaching KS3/4
- Has significant experience working with pupils with ASC, ideally in a specialist or SEND setting
- Understands adaptive teaching, EHCPs and autism-informed practice
- Is calm, organised, reflective and committed to inclusive education
Experience in specialist SEN/autism provision and curriculum adaptation is desirable.
