KARM Design Ltd is a growing engineering design, reverse engineering and manufacturing company. We specialise in CAD modelling, 3D scanning, precision measurement, inspection and the manufacture of replacement spare parts for industrial customers.
Due to continued growth, we are looking for an experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team. This role would suit someone confident with CAD, inspection, engineering drawings and practical mechanical work.
The Role
The role will be varied and hands-on, including office-based design work, workshop inspection and site-based engineering support. You will report directly to the Managing Director.
Main responsibilities will include:
- Creating accurate 3D CAD models and assemblies
- Producing detailed 2D manufacturing drawings
- Final drawing checking and approval
- Reverse engineering components and industrial equipment
- Working from physical parts, scan data, sketches, samples and customer information
- Supporting the stripping, inspection and measurement of industrial equipment
- Finished part inspection and checking components against drawings
- Travelling around the UK and overseas to measure, model and inspect industrial equipment, expected to be up to around 15% of the role
- Line management of a small engineering team
- Liaising with customers and suppliers on technical details
- Helping maintain drawing and design standards
The Candidate
We are looking for someone with strong mechanical design experience, a practical engineering mindset and good attention to detail.
You should have:
- A mechanical engineering degree, HNC/HND, apprenticeship background, or equivalent relevant experience
- Strong experience using SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD software
- Good experience producing 2D manufacturing drawings
- Ability to check and approve drawings accurately
- Good understanding of tolerances, fits and engineering standards
- Experience inspecting finished parts and measuring components using micrometers, vernier calipers, bore gauges, thread gauges and other inspection equipment
- Practical mechanical knowledge and confidence working with industrial equipment
- Ability to work from physical components, incomplete information and customer requirements
- Good communication skills
- Previous team management, supervisory or senior engineer experience
- Ability and willingness to travel within the UK and overseas when required, up to around 15% of the role
- Ability to manage projects and take responsibility for your own work
Experience with any of the following would be an advantage:
- Reverse engineering
- 3D scanning or metrology
- Geomagic Design X / Control X
- Pump, valve, gearbox, hydraulic or rotating equipment work
- Strip-down and inspection of industrial equipment
- Precision machining or fabrication knowledge

Pay: £45,000.00-£60,000.00 per year
