Grade + Salary: G9 - £31,537 full time - actual pro-rata salary £24,225
Hours: 32.5 hours per week, term time only including INSET days (39 weeks)

Cotham School, a successful, vibrant and diverse 11-18 comprehensive school, wishes to appoint an experienced HLTA to develop and deliver resources, interventions and programmes to support students with their Literacy skills, specifically Reading. You will deliver high quality literacy support and intervention to small groups and individual students across Key Stages 3 and 4, organising and managing an appropriate learning environment and resources targeted to their need. You will be integral to the assessment of students’ reading skills, be part of the data analysis and plan accordingly for the intervention required to ensure students ‘catch up and keep up’ in this foundational skill.
You will work in close liaison with colleagues, other agencies and parents to create co-ordinated approaches to supporting individual students, monitoring their effectiveness and supporting colleagues in their implementation.

Job Description
Post: Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) Reading and Form Tutor
Responsible to: Leader of Reading
Scope and Purpose of the Post
To develop and deliver resources, interventions and programmes to support students’ reading skills at KS3 and KS4.
To work in close liaison with colleagues, other agencies and parents to create co-ordinated approaches to supporting individual students, monitoring their effectiveness and supporting colleagues in their implementation.
To set targets for performance, within the context of the overall school’s targets and strategically plan for their achievement, ensuring that accurate and effective monitoring, recording and data analysis gives detailed evidence of the range and effectiveness of this provision.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- To identify and support students who require literacy intervention, liaising with the Leader of Reading, SENCo, Faculty Leaders, Learning Coordinators, classroom teachers.
- To deliver high quality literacy support and intervention to small groups and individual students across Key Stage 3 and 4, creating appropriate resources and supporting their access to the curriculum.
- To be involved in the planning, development and implementation of programmes of support for students within targeted groups.
- To support the development of literacy across the curriculum.
- To keep effective records of the support, achievement and progress of the students supported, including language acquisition of new arrivals.
- To analyse student data to identify need; assess and measure progress with regards to literacy.
- To evaluate strategies used with individual students and share successful strategies with subject teachers and other support staff.
- To organise and deliver opportunities for students to develop key literacy skills eg handwriting and spelling at break and lunchtime and outside curriculum time as required.
- To advocate for the transference of literacy skills from interventions to classroom work and beyond.
- To refer students with possible SENs appropriately.
- To contribute to the writing of learning plans in collaboration with students.
- To promote inclusion and acceptance of all students.
- To promote self-esteem and independence.
- Promote good student behaviour, dealing promptly with conflict and incidents and encouraging students to take responsibility for their own behaviour in line with established school policy.
- Establish constructive relationships with parents/carers to support their child’s literacy development.
Support for the school:
- Be aware of and comply with all school policies in particular procedures relating to child protection, health, safety and security, confidentiality and data protection.
- Report all concerns to the appropriate person (as named in the policy concerned).
- Be aware of and support difference and ensure all students have equal access to opportunities to learn, develop and feel valued.
- Contribute to the school ethos, aims and development/improvement plan.
- Appreciate and support the role of other professionals.
- Attend relevant meetings as required.
- Participate in training and other learning activities as required.
Other Outcomes:
- To take the daily role of tutor for a class of students.
- When required, to assist with the design and the development of the Literacy support timetable.
- Work within the school’s established discipline policy to anticipate and manage behaviour effectively, promoting mature behaviour and independent learning.
- To administer and assess/mark tests and invigilate exams/tests.
General Accountabilities:
- To comply with the schools Health and Safety policies and undertake risk assessments as appropriate.
- To attend relevant training and CPD to ensure school systems are up to date and functioning efficiently.
- To undertake any other reasonable tasks as are required from time to time at the discretion of the SENCo and SLT.
In addition, the postholder:
Undertakes appropriate, negotiated and agreed personal professional development within the framework of school policies and current practice.
Such other duties as from time to time be reasonably assigned by the Headteacher
