Fire and Security Operations Manager
About the Role
The Fire & Security Operations Manager is responsible for managing and delivering fire and security installation projects from start to finish. The role ensures projects are completed safely, on time, within budget, and in line with industry standards. You will manage multiple projects at once and act as the main point of contact between clients, engineers, subcontractors, and internal teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the full project lifecycle, from design and planning through installation, commissioning, handover, and aftercare.
- Plan and coordinate engineers, subcontractors, materials, and equipment.
- Produce and maintain project programmes, risk assessments, and method statements.
- Ensure compliance with SSAIB, BAFE (where applicable), Health & Safety legislation, and relevant standards.
- Carry out site surveys, provide technical support, and assist with quotations and proposals.
- Review and manage technical documents, drawings, and O&M manuals.
- Communicate regularly with clients, providing updates and managing expectations.
- Oversee system testing, commissioning, and handover, including client training and certification documentation.
- Monitor the quality and performance of subcontractors and in-house engineers.
- Identify and manage project risks and operational issues, escalating where required.
- Support tender and bid activities with programmes and technical input.
Systems & Technologies
Experience with some or all of the following is desirable:
- Fire alarm systems (addressable and conventional, detection, and voice alarm).
- Intruder alarms, access control, CCTV, and integrated security systems.
- Door entry and intercom systems.
- Networked and IP-based fire and security solutions.
Skills & Experience
- Proven experience managing fire and/or security installation projects.
- Good knowledge of industry standards and regulations (SSAIB required; BAFE desirable).
- Ability to manage multiple projects while meeting deadlines and budgets.
- Strong commercial awareness and cost control experience.
- Excellent organisation, planning, and communication skills.
- Ability to read and understand technical drawings and specifications.
- Full UK driving licence (where required).
Qualifications
- Relevant industry qualification desirable (NVQ, HNC, HND, or equivalent).
- Manufacturer training on fire and/or security systems is an advantage.
- SSAIB required; BAFE desirable.
- Health & Safety qualifications (CSCS, SSSTS/SMSTS, IOSH) desirable.
- Professional memberships (FIA, Security Institute) beneficial but not essential.
