Post: Facilities/Maintenance Assistant
Reporting to: Facilities Manager
Line Management Responsibility: Volunteers and tradesmen as necessary
Hours per week: 37.5 hrs a Week. Normal working will be agreed with your line manager and worked across 5 days, Monday to Friday. Some out of hours and ‘on call’ outside of regular working hours may be necessary in time of emergency.
Salary Scale: £24,871.00
Job Purpose:
Ø To assist the Facilities Manager in ensuring properties adhere to all legal requirements and standards and there is safe operation of all the internal and external works being carried out at properties/facilities that CHESS is responsible for.
Ø To ensure that health and safety standards are met and adhered to at all premises/facilities that CHESS is responsible for
Ø To work productively with all other team members in delivering this job specification
Ø To assist in practical aspects of the running of the charity, client moves and donations.
Ø To conduct house-checks in CHESS accommodation ensuring standards are being met and repairs responded to in a timely manner.
Area of Responsibility
· To ensure that all maintenance is carried out at all the properties that CHESS is responsible for in a timely manner.
· To adhere to all health and safety legislation that the charity operates from including HMO standards and the licence requirements from the local authorities.
· To undertake works at properties that CHESS is responsible for, in line with Health and Safety practices.
· Ensure that any volunteers or contactors working on CHESS sites do so adhering to our policies and procedures.
· To assist with the production and review of risk assessments for buildings and activities through a consultation process with relevant teams/team members.
· To help the Facilities Manager identify areas that need improving and develop a plan of implementation.
· To work with the rest of the team pro-actively to ensure that facilities are operating correctly and in a safe way.
· To complete all data that is required from the job including, but not limited to:
o Health and safety checks/ Annual Audits
o Annual service schedules
o Updates on legislative requirements
· To represent CHESS positively to all stakeholders, upholding the organisational and team values
· To facilitate practical aspects of CHESS accommodation operations and service user moves inside and outside CHESS. This may involve lifting and interactions with the service users.
· To adhere to the code of conduct and policies set out by CHESS to ensure the safe provision of services to single Homeless people.
· To develop and maintain good professional working relationships with all agencies that work in partnership with CHESS.
· To support the work of the Fundraising team as required in promoting CHESS’s services to the local community, press and media agencies and attending events wherever possible.
· To support and promote diversity and equality of opportunity in the workplace and amongst the service users.
· To work with the team to ensure that service users are safeguarded, protected from abuse and improper treatment. You will have responsibilities for the safety of CHESS properties and will be in regular contact with service users so must report any concerns promptly in line with CHESS safeguarding policy and procedures.
· To undertake all delegated tasks from the Facilities Manager in a timely fashion.
A full UK driving licence is required for this post to facilitate maintenance tasks, house checks, support activities and moves.

· Competent at working with Microsoft Office, particularly Word, Excel and Outlook
· Ability to accurately record data.

· Ability to stay focussed and efficient in the face of changing priorities.
· Knowledge of health and safety and the practices thereof
Desirable
· Understanding of or experience of, working face to face with vulnerable people.
· Understanding of safe-guarding procedures and identifying signs of abuse
· Training will be given.
