This role will be based predominantly in Brighton. Depending on their roles, our staff can be required to work in a range of different sites, including our main training centre, enrichment site, training cafes and employer’s premises.
JOB SUMMARY
The Communication Support Worker (CSW) plays a key role in enabling deaf candidates to access all aspects of Team Domenica life, both academically and socially. This role involves providing tailored communication support, adapting materials, and facilitating effective interaction between candidates, staff, and therapists. The CSW works collaboratively with teams to ensure the curriculum is delivered in an accessible way, offering guidance on communication strategies and supporting the development of inclusive learning environments.
The post holder will contribute to candidate reviews, monitor individual progress, and maintain accurate daily logs. They will also support the creation and modification of learning resources, including transcribing video content and preparing materials suited to the needs of specific deaf candidates. As part of the wider team, the role requires active participation in team meetings, maintaining confidentiality, and ensuring consistent, high‑quality support across the provision. The CSW will also provide appropriate assistance during examinations and assessments in line with awarding body guidelines.

RESPONSIBILITIES

- To support candidate with communication and facilitating their overall access to college life.
- To offer support appropriate to the candidate.
- To liaise closely with staff and therapists regarding the delivery of the curriculum, advising as appropriate on the modification and differentiation of the learning environment, materials and delivery styles.
- To advise staff and therapists on appropriate communication strategies when working with deaf candidates.
- To provide appropriate support to candidates during examinations and assessments, according to guidelines issued by the awarding bodies.
- To transcribe videos and prepare learning materials appropriate to the needs of specific deaf candidates.
- To contribute to the candidate review procedure as requested.
- To work effectively as a member of the CSW team, maintaining confidentiality and feeding back as appropriate.
- To attend regular team meetings as required.
- To contribute to the candidate logs at the end of each day.
- To discuss issues arising from logs.
- To support staff to develop teaching and learning strategies and in the production of modified resources.
- To monitor the progress of identified candidates.

EXPERIENCE

QUALIFICATIONS
· BSL Level 3
· Knowledge of how disabilities affect learning and communication
· Ability to adapt materials and communication strategies
