At Aptamer Group plc, we are growing our Operations team and are looking for a Scientist I – Binding & Characterisation to support the delivery of high-quality aptamer characterisation projects.

This is an exciting opportunity for an early-career scientist with laboratory experience who is looking to further develop their technical skills within a fast-paced biotech environment. The role will focus on binding assays and molecular interaction analysis, including ELISA/ELONA and Biolayer Interferometry (BLI), supporting customer projects across our synthetic binder platform.
You will work closely with Senior Scientists and the wider Operations team to deliver projects to agreed timelines, produce high-quality scientific data and contribute to continuous improvement activities within the laboratory.
What you’ll be doing
- Performing binding and characterisation assays, including ELISA/ELONA and BLI
- Produce aptamer libraries, pools and monoclonal populations via PCR and Transcription reactions.
- Perform functional assessment of aptamers via, but not limited to, polymerase and plate-based assays to GMP level standards
- Producing accurate, high-quality scientific data and maintaining clear documentation
- Supporting delivery of customer projects to agreed timelines
- Assisting with troubleshooting and process improvement activities
- Maintaining laboratory equipment, reagents and laboratory standards
- Working in line with Quality and Health & Safety procedures
- Collaborating with the wider Operations team to support smooth project delivery
About you
- We are looking for someone who:
- Has 1–2 years’ laboratory experience within a biotech, pharmaceutical or research environment
- Has experience or understanding of analytical or molecular biology techniques such as ELISA, BLI, PCR/qPCR or protein-based assays
- Is highly organised with good attention to detail
- Enjoys problem-solving and working collaboratively within a team
- Can manage their own workload and work to deadlines
- Is motivated to learn and develop new technical skills
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Biological Sciences, Biotechnology, Biochemistry or a related discipline
