Job Overview:
The Assistant Quantity Surveyor will support the commercial team in managing the financial and contractual aspects of all scaffolding projects. The role offers exposure to the full project lifecycle, from award through to final account, within a fast-paced specialist subcontracting environment. Key Responsibilities:
- Support detailed commercial input on all internal hand over meetings of contract works prior to starting on site and continue throughout contract. • Maintain accurate record keeping and document control (drawings, specifications, orders, contracts and variations). • Collate contract hand overs & labour costs to aid the application and invoice process. • Assist managing commercial performance of contracts from award to final account. • Liaise with clients, operational and commercial counterparts building strong working relationships. • Work with standard forms of contract (JCT & NEC) and bespoke scaffolding agreements. • Submit detailed and accurate monthly applications and invoicing in full and on time. • Ensure contracts meet or exceed agreed performance targets. • Aid in identifying and managing commercial risk and opportunity for all contracts and assist in developing strategies to minimize exposure, mitigate risk and ensure project success and profitability. • Maintain detailed and accurate contract monitoring throughout the contract.
- Assist in compilation of monthly commercial reports for Directors. • Identify, price and agree variations, visiting site when required. • Ensure consistent commercial processes across all contracts. • Support contractual entitlement for scope changes, extensions of time or loss and expense when applicable. • Support resolution of commercial issues and payment queries. • Reconcile accounts and agree payments. • Assist in the submission of final accounts. • Assist in developing and improving commercial strategy, systems and procedures.
Skills and Experience:
Essential: • Degree in Quantity Surveying or equivalent experience in the scaffolding/construction industry. • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel and Word). • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to liaise with clients, and team members effectively. • Proactive and self-motivated with strong organizational skills and keen attention to detail, particularly with applications and contract documentation. • Ability to analyse problems and offer practical solutions, with a strong commercial awareness. • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, hands-on environment • Full UK driving licence.
Desirable: • Knowledge of scaffolding and their cost structures. • A working knowledge of JCT & NEC contracts.
