Full job description

Job Title: Yard Operative Shunter

Monday to Friday 45 hours per week

Key Responsibilities

Moving HGV trucks and trailers safely between company sites.
Taking vehicles and trailers for MOT inspections and testing appointments.
Carrying out daily yard duties and ensuring vehicles are parked and positioned correctly.
Performing basic vehicle and trailer maintenance, including but not limited to:
Checking and topping up engine fluids.
Replacing defective air and electrical lines.
Replacing bulbs and lighting components.
Repairing or replacing curtain buckles and other minor trailer fittings.
Reporting defects and ensuring vehicles remain roadworthy.

Requirements

A valid and clean HGV Class 1 driving licence is essential.
Good understanding of HGV vehicles and trailers.
Ability to carry out light mechanical and maintenance repairs.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.
Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Reliable, punctual and organised.

Responsibilities:
- Assist with loading and unloading materials and equipment from trucks
- Organize and maintain the yard area
- Operate forklifts and other machinery as needed
- Perform general maintenance and cleaning tasks
- Follow safety protocols and maintain a safe work environment
- Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors
