DM Calibration
DM offers a fully-managed, precision calibration service, devised to allow our customers to benefit from industry-leading calibration practices. Delivered through our mobile, on-site units or UKAS-approved laboratory, we keep our customers operating with minimal downtime, ensuring their equipment is accurate, compliant and fully audit-traceable.
JOB SUMMARY / OVERALL PURPOSE OF ROLE:
To perform the calibration and, where appropriate, repair of a wide range of DC and RF instrumentation within our UKAS-accredited laboratory in Letchworth. The role is responsible for delivering technically valid calibration results in accordance with ISO/IEC 17025 requirements while ensuring exceptional customer service, quality and operational efficiency.
KEY RESPONSIBILITES:
- Perform calibration of allocated instruments in accordance with approved laboratory procedures, recording, evaluating and reporting all required measurement data accurately.
Undertake any other duties commensurate with the role as reasonably requested by the Engineering or Laboratory Manager.
- Assess calibration results against specification limits and ensure all work complies with UKAS and ISO/IEC 17025 requirements.
- Diagnose faults and undertake repairs, where authorised and competent to do so, ensuring equipment is restored to the required operational standard.
- Develop, review and maintain calibration procedures, technical methods and work instructions to ensure continued compliance with ISO/IEC 17025 and best practice.
- Contribute to the development and validation of new calibration methods, including uncertainty evaluations and method verification where applicable.
- Assist in maintaining the laboratory’s technical competence by identifying improvements in measurement techniques, equipment and processes and making recommendations to the Laboratory Manager.
- Liaise with the Laboratory Manager and colleagues to ensure customer deadlines are achieved and workloads are effectively prioritised.
- Participate in internal and external technical training, acting as both trainee and trainer where appropriate to support knowledge sharing within the laboratory.
- Ensure all laboratory reference standards and company-owned test equipment are maintained, verified and calibrated before use in accordance with the Quality Management System.
- Read, understand and comply with all Quality Management System documentation, including the Quality Policy, Quality Objectives and laboratory procedures, recognising personal responsibility for maintaining quality standards.
- Support UKAS assessments, internal audits, proficiency testing and corrective action activities as required.
- Maintain accurate laboratory records and ensure full traceability of all calibration activities.
- Comply with all Health & Safety policies and legislation and maintain a clean, organised and professional working environment.
- Attend departmental meetings, technical reviews and external training courses where required.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential:
- ONC, HNC or higher qualification in Electrical Engineering, Electronics or a related discipline, or equivalent industry experience.

- Ability to fault-find and undertake repairs to component level where appropriate.
- Excellent attention to detail and a methodical approach to technical work.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a team environment.
- Minimum of three years’ experience working within a UKAS-accredited calibration laboratory.
- Sound understanding of ISO/IEC 17025 requirements and their practical application within a calibration environment.
- Experience in the calculation and application of measurement uncertainty.
- Working knowledge of calibration principles across DC and RF disciplines.
- Practical experience calibrating a range of instrumentation including:
Desirable:
- Experience with automated calibration systems and laboratory software.
- Experience of uncertainty budgets and CMC development.
- Knowledge of UKAS assessment processes and internal auditing.
- Experience developing technical procedures and validation documentation.
- MetCal/MetTeam experience
