About the role
We are looking for a highly organised , proactive and personable Assistant Centre Manager to support the day-to day running of The Westway Community and Wellbeing Centre.

This is a varied and hands -on role that combines operational management, facilities coordination, health and safety oversight, and support for events, projects and community activity across the centre.

Working closely with the Centre Manager, you will help ensure the centre is safe, welcoming, well organised and running efficiently for staff, volunteers , hirers and visitors.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong organisational , interpersonal and practical problem-solving skills who wants to contribute to a busy community setting and make a meaningful difference to local people's lives.

Responsibilities

Support the Centre Manager with day -to day running of The Westway and Wellbeing Community Centre
Act as a welcoming and professional first point of contact for visitors, hirers, volunteers and partners.
Open and close the centre, including checking the building, systems, stock levels and cleaning arrangements
Be part of a rota to open and close the centre.
Manage centre bookings, room hire arrangements and space use.
Support the meals on wheels service, including volunteer co-ordination and food orders.
Deputise for the Manager during meetings and periods of annual leave
Monitor and respond to emails, messages and other day to day communications
Work collaboratively with staff , volunteers and key stakeholders to support delivery of existing and future projects
Undertake other reasonable duties as required.

Facilities, compliance and safety

.Oversee the maintenance and upkeep of the centre premises and surrounding estate

.Coordinate repairs, servicing and improvement works with contractors and suppliers

.Monitor cleaning, security and waste disposal services to ensure consistant standards.

.Maintain inventory records and service records for key equipment and facilities.

Support the planning and management of the facilities budget and procurement of services and supplies.

.Source quotations and assist with the supplier and contractor management for services including cleaning, security and IT support.

.Promote sustainable working practices and help ensure the premises remain accesible and inclusive for all users.

.Ensure compliance with relevant health and safety requirements . organisational policies and applicable regulations.

.Oversight of contractors and commisioned repairs.

.Maintain accurate records including risk assessments, fire safety checks, incident reports and other required compliance documentation.

Carry out regular safety inspections and emergency drills, including water checkswhere required.

.IT servicing management and licensing.

Events and stakeholder coordination

.Help organise and support the ongoing programme of events, activities and community use of the centre- to include some weekend work and out of hours work , on occasion.

.Take responsibility for external events, including those held outside opening hours when required.

.Liaise effectively with sub-tenants, volunteers, contractors and other external partners

Provide practical support for community events and activities held on- site off -site.

Meeting and event set-up, including furniture layouts, equipment and basic IT and AV set up.

Person specification

.At least two years experience in an assistant manager or similar operational role.

Experience of facilites, building or site management.

Good working knowledge of health and health and safety requirements and compliance procedures.

.Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities effectively. Good problem solving skills and the ability to respond calmly and practically in a busy enviroment.

Strong written and verbal skills.

Confident IT skills , including Microsoft Word, Excel. Powerpoint , Outlook and Teams.

.Ability to support the use of equipment such as speakers, presentation screens and other meeting or event technology.

Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, volunteers, contactors and community stakeholders.

Willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends when required as part of the wider Westway team.

Pay: £28,000.00 per year
