Salary: up to £35,000 FTE (pro rata up to £18,700 for 20 hours or £23,350 for 25 hours)
Location: Rotherham (Hybrid available)

Role overview
We are seeking a part-time Payroll Officer to manage our monthly payroll (end-to-end) and provide essential financial reporting support across the organisation. Alongside processing payroll for around 120 employees, this role focuses heavily on producing accurate recharge reports for departments, preparing nominal ledger postings, and supporting audit requirements. It’s ideal for someone who is highly analytical, confident with Excel, and meticulous in maintaining clean financial and people data.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver end‑to‑end monthly payroll processing
- Prepare payroll journals and nominal ledger postings for Finance
- Prepare BACS payments
- Produce detailed monthly recharge reports for Finance
- Support Finance team with data analysis and reporting
- Reconcile payroll outputs and investigate discrepancies
- Provide data and documentation for external audit requests
- Manage variable pay, bonuses, and statutory adjustments
- Respond to payroll queries and ensure compliance with legislation
- Administer employee benefits (pensions, healthcare, wellbeing schemes)
- Maintain accurate employee data across Sage Payroll
About you
- Experience running payroll for 100+ employees
- Strong understanding of payroll legislation, pensions, and statutory requirements
- Advanced Excel capability (pivot tables, lookups, reconciliations, financial analysis)
- High attention to detail
- Organised, proactive, and confident managing deadlines
