Full job description

Buckinghamshire College Group is seeking an enthusiastic and committed Lecturer in English to join our team on a fixed-term basis to cover a period of maternity leave. This is a part-time role (20.25 hrs per week/all year round) based at our Aylesbury Campus. This is an exciting opportunity to inspire and support students aged 16–18 and adult learners (19+) to develop their English skills and achieve qualifications essential for their future careers.

Whether you are an experienced English teacher, a newly qualified teacher, or looking to move into teaching from industry, this role offers a supportive and forward-thinking environment where you can make a genuine difference to learners’ lives.

Working within our dedicated English department you will be promoting high levels of student ambition leading to positive progression and excellent employer satisfaction.

You will play a key role in inspiring and supporting a diverse cohort of students to build confidence and succeed in English, developing essential literacy, communication and employability skills needed for further study and the workplace. With a strong emphasis on inclusive teaching, high standards of student achievement, and continuous improvement, this is an excellent opportunity to make a meaningful impact while benefiting from the flexibility of a variable hours role within a collaborative and forward-thinking college environment.

The successful candidate will be required to:

Have the ability to plan and prepare innovative schemes of work, lesson plans and assessment schedules which motivate students to achieve.
Plan and deliver highly effective learning programmes for diverse groups or individuals in a safe and inclusive environment, whilst also ensuring students are stretched and challenged to reach their full potential.
Address the English needs of students and work creatively to overcome individual barriers to learning, both within and outside of the classroom

Taking Teaching Further

The College actively engages with the Education & Training Foundation’s Taking Teaching Further scheme to recruit industry professionals to teach within Further Education.

As industry professionals offer our students industry experience and insight we support our unqualified teachers to learn ‘on the job’. You will be given full support throughout your development to fully qualified teacher status. Whilst in employment you would be enrolled onto the Level 3 Award in Education and Training. After completion you can choose to move be onto our Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training qualification. This is a great way for experienced professionals to achieve a recognised teaching qualification whilst in employment.
