We are seeking a dedicated and proactive Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Lead to join our team on a part-time basis, working 18 hours per week from Monday to Thursday.
Job Purpose
To lead and support the effective implementation, monitoring and continuous improvement of health, safety, food safety, environmental and sustainability standards. This role ensures compliance with UK legislation, industry standards and company policies, whilst combining workplace health and safety responsibilities with environmental management and sustainability initiatives. You will support the organisation in maintaining legal compliance and driving improvements in environmental performance and sustainable practices. This is a multi-site role, primarily based in Braintree (CM7) with regular weekly travel to Epping (CM16). The role reports to our Food Safety Manager and also works closely with our Head of Technical & NPD.
Qualifications and Experience
- Strong experience in an HSE/HSSE role, preferably within food or similar manufacturing environment (essential).
- Good working knowledge of UK health and safety and environmental legislation (essential).
- NEBOSH General Certificate (essential).
- IEMA Foundation Certificate in Environmental Management (essential).
- Understanding of food manufacturing risks and controls (desirable).
- IOSH, or equivalent qualification (desirable).
- IEMA Associate Certificate in Environmental Management, or equivalent qualification/experience (desirable).
- Food safety qualification at level 2 or 3 (desirable).
- Practical understanding of Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting (SECR) requirements (desirable).

What we offer
- Part time working hours - 18 per week, Monday to Thursday, 09:00 to 13:30.
- A competitive salary £20,571-£23,657 (actual), £40,000-£46,000 (FTE), depending on qualifications and experience, plus generous annual discretionary bonus scheme.
