Responsible for thoroughly cleaning and sanitizing factory equipment, production areas, and other environments during night shifts to meet strict food safety and hygiene standards. Key duties include executing detailed cleaning plans, safely using chemicals, operating cleaning equipment, completing documentation, and ensuring compliance with Health & Safety and COSHH procedures to maintain a hygienic and safe working environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Cleaning Equipment and Areas: Performing general and specialized cleaning of factory equipment, production lines, and environmental areas according to scheduled plans and cleaning instruction cards.
- Chemical and Equipment Use: Safely preparing, handling, and disposing of cleaning chemicals and disinfectants, and operating mechanical cleaning equipment according to instructions and training.
- Hygiene Standards: Adhering to and maintaining stringent hygiene and food safety standards to prevent cross-contamination and ensure product safety.
- Documentation: Completing all required paperwork and log entries accurately to demonstrate that cleaning duties have been completed to the required standard.
- Health & Safety Compliance: Working in full compliance with all site-specific Health & Safety and COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) procedures.
- Equipment Protection: Ensuring sensitive control panels, motor housings, and other equipment are properly covered to prevent water damage during cleaning.
- Reporting: Reporting any defects identified with machinery or equipment to the line controllers or operations team leaders.
- Quality Control: Performing post-cleaning checks to verify that all cleaning activities meet the required standards before the production run begins.
Key Skills and Qualifications
- Attention to Detail: A high level of attention to detail to ensure thorough cleaning and prevent hygiene failures.
- Understanding of Procedures: A comprehensive understanding of approved cleaning procedures, company standards, and safe systems of work.
- Chemical Knowledge: Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and their safe use, as per site instructions.
- Training: Ability to follow specific training on cleaning equipment and procedures, often detailed on Cleaning Instruction Cards.
- Food Safety: In some roles, a Level 2 Food Safety qualification and a strong understanding of food safety standards may be required.
