About the Role
SlumberJack Coffee is a fast-growing coffee brand and we are looking for a hands-on Production Site Engineer / Machine Operator to join our manufacturing team in Antrim. This is a pivotal role that goes beyond day-to-day operation — you will be the technical backbone of our production floor, keeping complex machinery running at peak performance, responding swiftly to breakdowns, and playing an active part in commissioning new equipment as we scale.
If you have a strong electrical and mechanical background, a methodical approach to fault-finding, and the drive to be part of a company on an exciting growth journey, we want to hear from you.
Key Responsibilities
Machine Operation & Production
- Operate and monitor manufacturing and packaging machinery to maintain smooth, efficient production flow.
- Set up and configure machines for different product runs, ensuring correct parameters are applied and verified before production begins.
- Carry out quality checks on products and in-process materials to meet company and food-safety standards.
- Handle raw materials, packaging, and tooling safely and efficiently throughout the shift.
- Collaborate with team members to achieve daily and weekly production targets.
- Maintain accurate production records, logs, and shift reports.
Maintenance & Breakdown Response
- Perform planned preventive maintenance (PPM) on all production equipment to minimise unplanned downtime.
- Diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical, and PLC/control-system faults as they arise — getting lines back up quickly and safely.
- Work on motors, drives, sensors, pneumatics, and conveyor systems; carry out electrical fault-finding and safe isolation in line with relevant regulations.
- Escalate complex breakdowns where specialist support is required and liaise with external engineers when necessary.
- Maintain a clear maintenance log and contribute to continuous-improvement activity to reduce repeat failures.
Commissioning & Projects
- Support the installation, commissioning, and sign-off of new machinery and production lines.
- Assist with Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) and Site Acceptance Tests (SATs) for incoming equipment.
- Work closely with the operations and engineering teams on improvement and capital projects.
Safety & Environment
- Follow all health and safety procedures, permit-to-work, and food-safety protocols.
- Maintain a clean, organised, and hazard-free work environment at all times.
- Actively participate in safety audits and toolbox talks.
What We're Looking For

- Solid electrical fault-finding skills — able to work safely on single-phase and three-phase systems.
- Experience with PLC-controlled equipment and basic PLC diagnostics (Siemens, Allen-Bradley, or similar).
- Competent with pneumatic and mechanical systems — able to strip, repair, and reassemble components.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and technical manuals.
- Strong commitment to health and safety, including safe isolation and permit-to-work procedures.
- Self-motivated with excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure during breakdowns.
Desirable
- Experience supporting or leading machinery commissioning and installation projects.
- 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS 7671) or equivalent electrical certification.
- Forklift licence or experience in a warehousing/logistics environment.
- Familiarity with food-safety standards (BRC, HACCP) and GMP requirements.
- Experience in the coffee, beverage, or FMCG sector.
