JOB TITLE: Domestic
RESPONSIBLE TO: Supervisor
HOURS OF WORK: As arranged on rota
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES
In general, the domestics are responsible for maintaining a clean and hygienic environment, whilst retaining the homely atmosphere in the Home.
The following duties are typical of the type of work undertaken by domestics, but these may be added to or changed depending upon needs.
There may be some overlap with Laundry Duties. See Laundry Job Description for details.
Typical Duties
LOUNGES – As per checklist
Vacuum floors
Clean windows and doors as required
Dust window ledges
Dust furniture and fittings – polish coffee tables
Regularly wipe down and clean lounge chairs thoroughly
Wipe down dining tables
Wipe down dining chairs
Wipe down small side tables
Discard any dead flowers
Vacuum carpet as required before and after meals
Discard used newspapers, etc.
Empty bins
BEDROOMS – As per checklist
Vacuum/mop bedroom floors Top up soap and paper towels
Clean washbasins and wipe surfaces PUT AWAY Residents Toiletries
Dust furniture and fittings – tops of wardrobes occasionally Make beds
Empty any waste bins Clean Mattresses
Collect any cups or glasses for washing
Clean inside windows – a few each day Rooms with en-suites
Discard any dead flowers Clean and disinfect toilet and wash basins
Clean armchairs thoroughly Mop Floor – Where necessary
Empty bin
ENTRANCE TO HOUSE – As per checklist
Keep entrance doorway, any low-level exterior lighting, porch area and any other entrance features clean
Clean windows and window sills
CORRIDORS – As per checklist
Vacuum carpet Top up hand gels as necessary
Dust corridor lights and fittings occasionally Wash floors - daily
Remove any cobwebs Clean Skirting boards - daily
Overhead dusting
BATHROOMS AND TOILETS – As per checklist
Clean toilets and baths, including special attention to toilet seats/handles and door handles
Renew toilet/towel rolls in holders
Ensure soap is in place
Change the hand towels
Dust any fittings, e.g. cabinets
Mop floor
Wipe down tiles
SLUICES – As per checklist OFFICES – Every other day
Clean sluice sinks, taps and surrounds Clean offices
Dust any fittings Empty Bins
Wipe window ledges and pipes
Mop floor
OTHER DUTIES
COSHH – Be aware of all COSHH guidelines and instructions.
Empty all rubbish bins and take any full bags out to the bins
Any other domestic duties required
Thoroughly clean (including curtains) one bedroom weekly.
Attend/participate required Training either in house or online
Attend required Staff meetings
Attend Supervisions
Carry the portable radio’s at all times
Answer call bells if in the vicinity.
Always support all staff where necessary
Follow Hays House Nursing Home Policies and Procedures as set out in Staff Handbook and other policy documents
Work to a high standard
Work to allocated are as per Supervisors Allocation
