Apprentice BMS Controls Engineer
RTR Group is a well established Electrical, Building and Property Services company operating across Essex, Kent, London and throughout the UK. As we continue to grow our Controls Division, we're offering an exciting opportunity for a motivated individual to join us as an Apprentice BMS Controls Engineer, with a clear progression path into a fully qualified BMS Controls Engineer role.
The Apprenticeship
- As an Apprentice BMS Controls Engineer, you will receive:
- Hands on training alongside experienced Controls Engineers and qualified electricians
- Day release training towards the Level 3 Installation and Maintenance Electrician Apprenticeship at College
- A structured development plan with progression into a permanent BMS Controls Engineer role
- Exposure to industry leading Building Management Systems, HVAC controls and smart building technologies
What You'll Learn
- Installation, servicing and maintenance of Building Management Systems (BMS)
- Control panel assembly, wiring and testing
- Fault finding on control systems, sensors and field devices
- Reading and working from electrical schematics, wiring diagrams and control drawings
- HVAC controls including Air Handling Units, Boilers, Chillers and Heat Pumps
- Commissioning and optimisation of building control systems
- Safe working practices and electrical testing procedures
- How to diagnose and resolve faults on live customer sites
What We're Looking For
- Achieved or currently completing Level 2 Electrical Installation
- Positive attitude and strong desire to learn
- Reliable, punctual and safety-conscious
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- Interest in electrical engineering, controls and building automation
- Full UK Driving Licence (or working towards obtaining one)
Your Career Path
On completion of the apprenticeship, you'll progress into a BMS Controls Engineer role, working on:
- Building Management Systems (BMS)
- HVAC Controls and Energy Management Systems
- Control panel installation and commissioning
- Building automation and smart building technologies
- Planned maintenance and reactive fault finding
- Nationwide projects across commercial, healthcare, education and industrial sectors
- You'll gain industry-recognised qualifications including:
- Level 3 Installation & Maintenance Electrician Apprenticeship
- NVQ Level 3 Electrical Installation
- AM2 Assessment
- ECS Gold Card
- BCIA Controls & HVAC Training
- Manufacturer specific BMS training (subject to progress)
