Job Purpose
Whiteghyll makes bespoke display products for brands and retailers
The job purpose is to manufacture high-quality, purpose-made timber and mdf components and bespoke joinery from Cnc machined materials to finished items. You will read technical layouts, operate workshop machinery safely, and apply traditional and modern joinery techniques to deliver exceptional products within fixed commercial deadlines.
Key Responsibilities
1. Workshop Production & Assembly
- Manufacture custom items including mdf display units, veneer and laminate application, shopfitting counters, metal display fixtures etc.
2. Technical Skills & Machinery Operation
- Interpret technical drawings, and manufacturing briefs accurately without supervision.
- Set up and safely operate workshop machinery, including panel saws, planers, thicknessers, spindle moulders, and cross-cut saws.
- Utilise portable power tools and traditional hand tools to refine, sand, and finish items to tight tolerances.
3. Quality Control & Safety
- Conduct rigorous quality checks to ensure all work is plumb, level, square, and defect-free before it leaves the workshop.
- Adhere to Health & Safety regulations, including COSHH, Risk Assessments, and Method Statements (RAMS).
- Maintain a clean bench area and participate in workshop housekeeping to ensure a safe environment for all staff.
Key Skills & Requirements
- Experience: Minimum 2–3 years of proven experience as a bench joiner in a commercial workshop environment.
- Tooling: Possession of a good basic personal toolkit (specialist power tools and machinery are provided by the workshop).
- Maths and Measurement: Good mathematical skills for calculated measurements, angles.
- Physical Fitness: Capability to handle heavy timber and sheet materials and stand at a workbench for long periods.
- Ability to work overtime during the week and /or weekends.at busy periods.
- Attendance: Excellent time keeping and attendance.
Qualifications & Training
- NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Bench Joinery or Wood Occupations (or equivalent City & Guilds qualification).
- Completed Time-Served Apprenticeship with a recognized construction or joinery firm is highly desirable.
Pay: £17.00-£18.00 per hour
