Looking for a change from life on the tools?
You've spent years building your trade.
Early starts. Tight deadlines. Working in all weathers. Solving problems. Producing work you're proud of.
But perhaps you're starting to think about what comes next.
Maybe your body is telling you it's time to spend less time on the tools.
Maybe you enjoy helping apprentices on site and showing them the right way to do things.
Maybe you've realised that passing on your knowledge is just as rewarding as using it.
If that sounds like you, keep reading.
Build Futures, Not Just Buildings
At Greenlight, we're passionate about developing the next generation of construction talent.
Every learner who walks through our doors has the potential to build a successful career in the construction industry. Some simply need the right support, guidance and opportunity to get there.
As a General Construction Tutor, you'll help learners develop practical construction skills, confidence, independence and employability.
You might be teaching basic carpentry one day, supporting a learner with bricklaying techniques the next, or helping someone build the confidence they need to progress into employment.
The construction skills matter.
But the impact you make matters even more.
Because when a learner leaves with new skills, greater confidence and a genuine belief in their own ability, there is no better reward.
The Role
This is a hands on training role delivering practical construction skills to learners with a range of abilities and support needs.
You'll create an engaging and supportive learning environment where learners can develop both vocational skills and the personal qualities needed to succeed in work and life.
You will:
- Deliver practical training across a range of construction disciplines including carpentry, bricklaying, plastering and painting and decorating
- Adapt your teaching approach to suit different learners and learning styles
- Demonstrate trade skills and assess practical competency
- Support learners in developing confidence, independence and employability skills
- Monitor progress, attendance and learner engagement
- Maintain a safe and organised workshop environment
- Work closely with colleagues to ensure learners receive the support they need
- Act as a positive role model, promoting professionalism, safety and high standards
No two days are the same.
One moment you could be demonstrating practical skills in the workshop. The next, supporting a learner who simply needs someone to believe in them.
What You'll Bring
You may already be an experienced construction tutor.
Or you may have spent years working within the construction industry and be looking for a new challenge where you can pass your knowledge on to others.
Either way, we are looking for someone who genuinely cares about developing people.
You will have strong trade knowledge, excellent communication skills and the patience to support learners with varying abilities and support needs.
You don't need to know everything about teaching from day one. We can support your development.
What we can't teach is enthusiasm, empathy and a genuine passion for helping others succeed.
You'll be someone who:
- Takes pride in their trade
- Enjoys helping others learn
- Leads by example
- Understands the importance of safety
- Wants to make a positive difference
- Believes everyone deserves an opportunity to succeed
