Full job description

JOB TITLE: LABORATORY ASSISTANT

REPORTING TO: LABORATORY MANAGER

JOB FUNCTION:

To undertake first stage analysis by sample filtration and sample processing. To undertake analysis of total viable counts and Pseudalerts®, both sample preparation and plate counting. Take part in bank holiday working rota as and when required.

Key Tasks

1. ANALYSIS

To assist in ensuring that all first stage sample preparation is undertaken within appropriate time scales. Samples are tested for a wide range of bacteria including total viable counts (TVC), Legionella, Coliforms, P.aeruginosa and Enterococci.
To assist in the counting of TVC, Pseudalert® and Colilert® samples as and when required.
To assist in ensuring the laboratory is clean and meets the required hygiene standards.
Ensure that all work is undertaken in a manner that complies with Company and Health & Safety Executive requirements.
Take part in external and internal quality assurance testing.

2. ADMINISTRATION

Assist with the maintenance of sample records.

4. MAINTENANCE OF THE UKAS AND OTHER QUALITY SYSTEM

Ensure adherence to all accreditation criteria.
Ensure that all relevant quality control documentation is completed accurately and in accordance with the requirements of UKAS.
Assist with the equipment maintenance and calibration program.

5. LIMS SYSTEM

Ensure accurate entry of key data.

There may be occasions when it is necessary to undertake activities outside of the scope of this job description. The General Manager or the Managing Director will request these activities, as and when required.

SHIFT PATTERN:

Monday - Friday - 13:30 - 22:00 hrs (8.5 hours shift with 1 hour break)

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: £24,784.50 per year
