The Head of Childcare is responsible for leading and managing the company’s wraparound childcare provision, ensuring safe, high-quality and engaging experiences for children across all venues.
The role oversees the day-to-day operation, performance and consistency of all childcare settings, ensuring programmes are well organised, compliant and delivered to a high standard.
The Head of Childcare will provide leadership and support to childcare staff, maintain strong relationships with schools and parents, and ensure all provision reflects the company’s values, safeguarding responsibilities and commitment to child wellbeing.
Key Responsibilities
Childcare Leadership
- Lead and manage all wraparound childcare provision across the business.
- Ensure childcare settings operate safely, effectively and consistently.
- Maintain high standards of care, professionalism and child wellbeing.
- Support the development of a positive and child-centred culture across all venues.
- Act as the operational lead for childcare provision.
Venue Management & Operations
- Oversee the day-to-day operation of all wraparound venues.
- Ensure staffing levels and rotas are organised effectively.
- Support venue teams with operational guidance and problem solving.
- Monitor the quality and consistency of childcare delivery across all settings.
- Ensure venues are safe, welcoming and well organised.
Safeguarding & Child Welfare
- Promote and maintain strong safeguarding practices across all childcare provision.
- Ensure staff follow safeguarding, behaviour and welfare procedures.
- Respond appropriately to safeguarding concerns and incidents.
- Support children’s wellbeing, inclusion and positive behaviour.
- Ensure childcare environments remain safe and supportive for all children.
Policies, Procedures & Compliance
- Support compliance with Ofsted and childcare requirements.
- Ensure company policies and procedures are followed consistently across venues.
- Maintain high standards of health & safety and risk management.
- Support venue audits, inspections and operational checks.
- Work closely with senior management to maintain strong childcare systems.
Parent & School Relationships
- Build strong working relationships with schools and venue partners.
- Support positive communication with parents and carers.
- Help resolve childcare-related concerns professionally and effectively.
- Promote a welcoming and professional experience for families.
Staff Support & Development
- Support childcare staff and venue leaders in their roles.
- Provide guidance, mentoring and operational support to teams.
- Help maintain positive morale and team culture.
- Support staffing organisation and day-to-day communication across venues.
Person SpecificationEssential
- Level 3 Childcare qualification (or equivalent).
- Experience working within childcare or wraparound care settings.
- Experience leading or supervising teams.
- Strong understanding of safeguarding and child welfare.
- Excellent organisational and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple venues and priorities effectively.
- Professional, calm and solution-focused approach.
- Strong behaviour management and interpersonal skills.
- Full UK driving licence and access to transport.
Desirable
- Experience within Ofsted-regulated provision.
- Safeguarding qualification.
- Paediatric First Aid qualification.
- Experience working with schools and external partners.
- Experience managing operational childcare provision across multiple sites.

Pay: £28,000.00-£30,000.00 per year
