Full job description

Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Researcher to join our growing team. This is a pivotal role within SS Thrive Hub CIC, offering the opportunity to lead research projects among the black and ethnic minority group with the focus on sickle cell awareness and research, mentor junior colleagues, and contribute to our organisational strategy.

As Senior Researcher, you will manage complex research commissions from inception to completion, ensuring the highest standards of rigour, ethics, and community engagement throughout. You will play a key role in building our research portfolio and representing the organisation to external stakeholders.

Duties

Research Design & Delivery

Lead the design, planning, and delivery of mixed-methods research projects, ensuring methodological rigour and ethical compliance
Develop research frameworks, tools, and protocols appropriate to diverse community contexts
Oversee data collection, analysis, and interpretation across qualitative and quantitative methodologies
Ensure all research adheres to UK GDPR, ethical guidelines, and relevant professional standards

Stakeholder & Community Engagement

Build and maintain collaborative relationships with clients, community partners, commissioners, and academic institutions
Facilitate co-production and participatory research approaches, ensuring community voices are central
Present research findings to varied audiences including senior stakeholders, community groups, and policymakers

Leadership & Organisational Development

Line manage, mentor, and provide quality assurance support to Research Officers and Research Assistants
Contribute to business development, including identifying funding opportunities and supporting tender/proposal writing
Represent SS Thrive Hub CIC at sector events, conferences, and external forums
Support the development of internal research policies, processes, and best practice guidelines

Reporting & Dissemination

Produce high-quality written reports, briefings, journal articles, and executive summaries tailored to different audiences
Manage project timelines, budgets, and deliverables to meet commissioner requirements
Contribute to organisational learning and knowledge management

Requirements

Degree (or equivalent experience) in a relevant discipline such as Social Sciences, Public Health, Education, Psychology, Community Development, or related field
Substantial experience (typically 5+ years) conducting applied social research in a professional or community setting
Demonstrable expertise in both qualitative and quantitative research methods and analysis
Experience managing research projects end-to-end, including stakeholder management and budget oversight
Proven track record of producing clear, accessible written research outputs (reports, briefings, publications)
Strong understanding of research ethics, informed consent, and UK GDPR as applied to research
Experience working with or in under-served or marginalised communities
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a small, collaborative team

Desirable Criteria

Master's degree or PhD in a relevant field
Experience of participatory action research, co-production, or community-based participatory research
Familiarity with evaluation frameworks (e.g., Theory of Change, logic models, outcome measurement)
Experience supporting bids, tenders, or funding applications
Knowledge of the voluntary, community, and social enterprise (VCSE) sector
Experience with research software such as NVivo, SPSS, ATLAS.ti, or R
