Customer Experience Genie
ABOUT US:
We don’t like to boast… but we might just be the best-kept secret in call and message handling! ;)
The Office Genie is a multi-award-winning, Northampton-based company that’s been picking up the phone, emails, WhatsApp’s, you name it (so our clients don’t have to) since 2005.
We provide Reception and PA support to businesses of every shape and size, all built on one thing: world-class customer service.
Here’s the magic: we give our clients back their most valuable asset — time. Time to grow their business. Time for their families. Time for that holiday they keep promising themselves. Whatever it is, we make it happen by being brilliant on the phone, every single call.
Our mission? To become the #1 Call Handling company in the UK. No small ambition but we like a challenge.
Our Values:
- Create a WOW experience for clients, customers and team
- Communication is key
- Community creates power and emotional connections
- Curiosity
Why You'll Love Working Here:
- Free on-site parking – easy and abundant
- On-site gym — squeeze in a workout on your break
- Casual dress — come as you are
- Company events — because a team that works hard should play hard too
- Company pension — because grown-up things matter
- 20 days holiday (pro rata) plus bank holidays
- A long-established, growing company with a genuinely supportive team who’ve got your back on a manic Monday morning
Is This The Single GREATEST Reception & PA Role Around?
Probably… maybe… you tell me! ;)
Here’s why: we’re not a call centre, so you won’t be reading from a script (we know, that’s basically unheard of these days). Every call is different - you’ll be taking a payment one minute, booking an appointment the next, then transferring a call or fielding a tricky question straight after that. Just when you’ve got the hang of one client’s business, you’re onto the next.
No two days are the same. You will never be bored. You might, however, be brilliantly busy.
Let’s Talk Money:
This role pays £12.80 per hour – with the opportunity for bonuses for going above and beyond.
The Perfect Candidate Will Tick The Boxes Below:
- You’ll be a genuine people person - even (especially) when they’re tricky
- You’ll have a confident, warm telephone manner
- You’ll listen brilliantly and communicate even better
- You’ll sweat the small stuff - attention to detail is everything here
- You can actually spell (seriously - no txt spk, eva)
- You’ve got real customer service experience (a background as a PA, Admin Co-ordinator or in Customer Services is ideal)
- You can talk, type and read all at the same time (yes, really)
- You’re calm under pressure and can follow instructions to the letter
- You’re comfortable juggling 20+ calls an hour once trained - multitasking is your superpower
- You’re flexible enough to adapt your hours, including occasional short-notice cover for holidays or sickness
- You’ve got resilience, motivation, and a sense of humour to match ours
Qualifications aren’t important to us. Experience, curiosity and a genuine desire to help people are.
What Your Typical Day Might Look Like:
(Shifts vary and are agreed with you - here’s an example of what a day on the desk could look like)
9:00am: Log on, grab a coffee, check overnight messages.
9:05am: First calls of the morning roll in - one client needs a hair appointment booked, another is looking for a quote for driving lessons.
9:45am: Switch gears completely — transferring a call through to a client’s mobile.
10:15am: A caller wants to make a payment over the phone. Detail mode: on.
11:00am: Things ramp up - you’re juggling three clients’ worth of calls back to back.
12:30pm: Lunch - you’ve earned it.
1:15pm: Back on the desk. Admin task: updating a client’s diary notes.
2:00pm: A tricky caller needs some extra patience and a lot of empathy. You nail it.
3:30pm: More calls, more variety, more “no two days are the same.”
4:45pm: Wrap up outstanding admin and hand over any loose ends.
5:00pm: Log off, head home — already wondering what tomorrow’s calls will bring.
Our lines are open Monday-Friday 8.30am-8pm and Saturday 9am–5pm, so your actual shift pattern will be agreed with you - flexibility is a two-way street here.
The Nitty Gritty:
- Job Types: Part-time, Permanent
- Pay: From £12.80 per hour
- Schedule: 4-8-hour shifts, day shifts, Monday to Friday (with occasional overtime), plus Saturday cover on our rota
- Location: Northampton — you’ll need to reliably commute or be planning to relocate before starting, as this role is fully in-person
This isn’t an easy job - it takes real dedication and commitment. Lines can ring off the hook, especially on a Monday morning, and you’ll need the initiative to muck in and get it done. But you’ll have a genuinely great support network behind you.
