Sheffield City Council’s Capital Delivery Service is looking for Civil and Structural Engineers to join its in‑house multidisciplinary design team.
This role offers the opportunity to work on a wide range of public‑sector capital projects, taking responsibility for civil and/or structural engineering design and inspection work, and contributing to delivery from early feasibility through to construction.
You will work alongside architects, project managers and cost consultants within a professional, consultancy-style environment, with the chance to develop your technical expertise, progress towards Chartership, and help shape projects that make a real difference to the city.
What you’ll be doing
- Working within our in-house Civil and Structural Engineering team to undertake design and inspection work with limited supervision
- Contributing to multidisciplinary design teams on projects across the Council’s capital programme
- Undertaking site inspections, surveys and technical reporting relevant to your discipline
- Supporting and mentoring graduate engineers as part of the wider team
About you
You will be a degree‑qualified Civil or Structural Engineer, typically working towards Chartership with a relevant professional institution (e.g. ICE or IStructE), with experience delivering design work and site-based activities within a professional environment appropriate to your discipline.

If you are appointed to this role, your starting salary will be at the bottom of the grade. If you provide payslip evidence that your basic pay is greater than the bottom of the grade, we will consider starting you at the point of minimum advantage within the grade.
