To work as part of a dynamic team, carrying out forensic DNA analysis, using the latest techniques on a range of sample types.
To provide technical support to the DNA profiling unit, including troubleshooting, method development and process implementation. This will involve diagnosing and resolving technical issues, carrying out projects, writing technical reports, developing standard operating procedures and delivering training to technical and non-technical staff.
Duties & Responsibilities
- To work as part of a dynamic team, carrying out forensic DNA analysis and using the latest techniques on a range of sample types to assist in the investigation of serious and violent crime
- Ensure compliance with accredited ISO17025 and ISO17020, the requirements of the National DNA Database and Codes of Practice of the Forensic Science Regulator.
- Work closely with the Quality Team with regards to non-conformances within the DNA laboratory and assist in the conducting of investigations where necessary.
- Work closely with DNA staff to troubleshooting any technical issues that may arise during processing to ensure continuity of service delivery
- Continually improve existing DNA processing procedures and be responsible for their implementation into the laboratory.
- Ensure that KFS Procedures and Polices, as detailed in the QMS are adhered to including Health and Safety guidelines and the Employee Handbook.
- Keep up to date with current relevant technological, scientific and legislative issues.
- Ensure that the technical standards in the quality manual are kept up to date and liaise with the other sites over any technical issues to ensure compatibility and consistency.
- Support and assist the Reporting Managers with reference to technical issues and problematic samples.
- Be willing to deliver training for all aspects of the DNA process and mentor less experienced staff.

Qualifications
- Science degree or equivalent experience in a scientific role
Experience
- Previous laboratory experience desirable but not essential
- Previous experience in a customer facing role desirable but not essential
