Job Summary
Hummingbird Preschool are seeking a dedicated and experienced Early Years Deputy Manager to support the leadership and daily operations of our childcare setting. The successful candidate will play a vital role in ensuring high-quality early childhood education and care, fostering a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment for children. This position offers an excellent opportunity for a motivated professional with strong management and childcare skills to contribute to the development and well-being of young children while supporting the nursery team. This role will be split 19 hours a week out of ratio (Deputy Manager) and 19 hours a week in ratio as an Early Years Practitioner.
Responsibilities
- Assist the Nursery Manager in overseeing daily nursery operations, ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements and standards.
- To take responsibility for the Nursery Setting, in the absence of the Nursery Manager.
- Support the planning and delivery of engaging, age-appropriate activities that promote children's development across all areas.
- Supervise and support nursery staff, providing guidance, mentorship, and leadership to foster a positive team environment.
- Ensure the safety and wellbeing of children at all times, implementing safeguarding policies effectively.
- Maintain effective communication with parents and carers, providing updates on children's progress and addressing any concerns promptly.
- Contribute to maintaining accurate records of children's development, attendance, and other documentation as required.
- Assist in staff recruitment, training, and performance management processes.
- Support the implementation of policies related to health & safety, equality & diversity, and behaviour management.
- Participate in ongoing professional development to stay current with early childhood education best practices.
Experience
- Proven experience working with children in a childcare or nursery setting.
- A Full and Relevant U.K Early Years Qualification
- Previous management or supervisory experience within an early years environment is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of early childhood education frameworks and regulations (such as EYFS).
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and support a team effectively.
- Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
- Experience working collaboratively with colleagues, parents, and external agencies.
Valid driving licence is preferred for travel between settings or community engagement activities. This role is ideal for a passionate childcare professional looking to make a positive impact on young children's lives while developing their leadership skills within a supportive team environment.
