Britten Pears Arts (BPA) is a pioneering Music & Arts based charity, situated on the beautiful Suffolk coast, working across a wide range of activities. Music-related charitable work includes Artist Development, a year-round Performance Programme, Music in the Community and Creative Health and our Living Heritage Museum and Archive at The Red House.

At Snape Maltings, our significant commercial activity includes Retail, Hospitality, Galleries and Property – including holiday lets and accommodation for visiting artists. All commercial profits are used to support the BPA charity. We employ more than 150 permanent colleagues, many of whom work flexibly, together with significant numbers of seasonal staff and freelancers.

BPA continues to follow in the footsteps of founders Britten and Pears, inspired by their goal to make the arts useful and available to all. It’s a hugely exciting time to join our organisation, and in particular the Children, Families and Young People strand of work, which is being re-launched in September following on from a Capital Project at Snape Maltings. Our vision for the remodeled Britten Pears Building is that of a bustling hub for music education in our region, and one that is enhanced further by the close connection and collaborative working with the wider Music Programme at Britten Pears Arts – including our work in Artist Development, Performance, Later Life Programmes as well as Knowledge Exchange & Professional Learning. We’re so excited to be opening our doors to even greater numbers of Children, Families and Young People, to remove barriers to access and to support everyone in their musical journey.

We’re looking for an experienced arts manager who has extensive knowledge of working with and for children, families and young people at a strategic level, and in particular in music education. You will have demonstrable people management experience and will be excited about leading a team through a time of change, with a keen interest in internal & external partnership building to positively impact the greatest number of children, families and young people possible.

The role is based at Snape Maltings but some travel and support to other locations within Suffolk will also be required. We are open to supporting applicants with flexible working patterns.

A strategic and imaginative leader, passionate about shaping inspiring music opportunities for children, families and young people
A proven track record of creating and delivering meaningful arts and music programmes that make a real difference
An inspiring and supportive team leader, able to nurture, motivate and develop others
A natural collaborator, who builds strong, trusted partnerships across education, arts and communities
A deep commitment to inclusion and access, opening doors for people from all backgrounds to engage with music
Experience of leading safeguarding with care and integrity, placing young people’s wellbeing at the heart of the work
Confidence in managing budgets and using insight and evaluation to strengthen programmes and impact
An engaging and thoughtful communicator, able to champion the work and connect with a wide range of audiences
