Changing Waste is an industrial processor of waste located in the East Riding of Yorkshire, It is designed to handle a wide range of waste feedstocks. Through a variety of different processes that utilise the waste as a raw material to create a blend for anaerobic digestion, which in turn is used to generate electricity and gas that is 100% renewable and exported to the national grid.
We have an exciting opportunity for an Process Operator (Nights) to join a great team of people and make a difference within a supportive and values-led Organisation.
Overall Purpose of the Role:
The Night Operator is responsible for ensuring the smooth running of the plant by monitoring equipment, handling feedstock, performing routine inspections, and assisting with basic maintenance tasks. This is a hands-on role ideal for individuals with a mechanical or operational background, especially in energy, waste, or industrial processing environments.
The activities include;
- Operating de-packaging machinery consistently to optimise the recipe for the type of waste received and plant KPI’s
- Safely and effectively tip waste from trailers, bulkers, tankers or palletised loads
- To manage the cleanliness of the reception hall and site, cleaning up spills, raising non conformances where required
- Perform routine checks on tanks, digesters, and process equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation
- Manage the weighbridge operations (out of hours and cover) accurately and effectively
Key areas of responsibility:
- Operate, monitor and adjust plant equipment including pumps, conveyors, mixers, CHP units and biogas upgrading systems according to company standards
- First point of contact for simple troubleshooting of faults and managing resolution with assistance from Engineer on call
- Safe and effective loading and unloading of feedstock materials using telehandlers, forklifts or loaders – including the inspection of feedstock against paperwork
- Managing incoming and outgoing loads over the weighbridge and ensuring that compliant records of transactions are handled and filed according with company and legislative procedures (out of hours and cover)
- Regular maintenance checks on plant equipment including clean down to company hygiene standards and effective logging of information on company systems. Reporting any faults or non conformances to Plant Supervisor
- Workplace organisation & housekeeping in the Reception Hall and around the site to company standard
- Ensuring provisions are in place to allow adherence of Animal Health & Environment Agency requirements (i.e. footbaths always in operation, no food waste is spilt outside the reception hall, litter is collected / prevented from leaving the reception hall, not accepting food waste where the EWC code does not feature on our permitted list, doors not left open for prolonged periods etc.)
- Ensuring the packaging waste within the Reception Hall goes into the correct streams for the daily skip movements (i.e. landfill, recycling etc.)
- Achieve acceptable levels of materials processed, based on the waste delivered and daily KPI’s for the plant by operating the HMI
This will be working 4 Nights per week Monday - Thursday 6pm - 6am, with 30 minute unpaid break, 46 hours per week
