Location: Belfast, Hybrid (3 days in office, 2 days remote)

The Role
We are seeking a Senior Business Analyst to play a key role in our IT Separation Programme and wider digital transformation. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to some of the most important changes SONI will undertake in the coming years.
You will work closely with experts across the organisation to understand business needs, shape future processes and ensure that new systems and solutions support SONI's long term goals.
This role spans digital and corporate systems, cloud platforms, data analytics, operational tools and control centre applications—making it an ideal opportunity for someone who enjoys complex, meaningful work with real impact.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead business analysis activities across a wide range of business areas, supporting IT transformation and the development of future SONI systems.
- Gather, analyse and document business requirements by engaging with stakeholders and subject matter experts.
- Translate complex business needs into clear, structured specifications for design and delivery teams.
- Prepare and lead requirements workshops and sessions, ensuring both technical and nontechnical colleagues are fully engaged.
- Contribute to business cases, proposals and solution options.
• Work with third party suppliers and partners to define and deliver solutions aligned with SONI’s strategy. • Identify risks, gaps and issues early and communicate them clearly.
- Support requirements prioritisation and help stakeholders make informed decisions.
- Create high quality documentation, including requirements documents, process maps, data flows and business specifications.
- Develop requirements through to formal signoff, following SONI’s governance processes.
- Play an active role in solution design, ensuring cross system impacts are considered.
- Work with the business to define functional requirements that support system design.
- Support change impact assessments, training strategies and implementation activities.
- Manage change requests throughout the lifecycle of new developments and system changes.
- Bring forward new ideas and draw on external best practice to help improve ways of working.
Critical Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Essential:
- Extensive practical experience in Business Analysis activities (i.e. requirement gathering, creating specifications, workshop facilitation, business process design, reports design and business process modelling)
- In depth understanding of the full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC)
- Detail oriented with an ability to understand customer needs
- Stakeholder management experience, determining and documenting requirements
- Good verbal and written communication skills, capable of synthesising complex inputs to requirements and presenting to stakeholders across the business
- Energetic, self-starter, willing to learn and grow in a dynamic and fast passed environment
- Able to operate with both agile and waterfall methodologies
- Understanding of the need for effective governance and oversight process
- Able to work with others and to collaborate with a diverse range of people to arrive at the optimum solutions
Desirable:
- Experience of working in the utility or energy sectors
- Knowledge of energy sector information technology solutions
