Summer School Teacher
Overview
International Projects Centre Exeter is looking for enthusiastic, dedicated individuals to join our team of Summer School teachers for the 2026 season.
You will work with groups of multilingual teenagers, leading 3 hours of communicative language learning every morning. You will teach sessions on specific pre-arranged topics as well as choosing your own topics and themes to supplement these. You will help your students to feel safe in Exeter and encourage them to practise and improve their English.
The successful applicant should make all lessons interesting for our students whilst ensuring that their language level and speaking confidence increase throughout their stay.
Duties:
- Provide a friendly and professional point of contact for all students and accompanying group leaders
- Teach classes of up to 16 teenagers for 15 hours each week
- Complete attendance registers and records of work for all classes
- Liaise with IPC’s Director of Studies regarding lessons and students
- Liaise with your pair teacher regarding lessons and students
- Take part in weekly staff meetings
- Tailor lessons to students’ language abilities and interests
- Ensure students are aware of their schedules and afternoon activities
- Take part in a lesson observation from IPC’s Director of Studies
Person Specification
- excellent communication skills
- good level of English
- CELTA/CertTESOL or equivalent OR would suit enthusiastic graduate with experience of leadership and or a modern foreign languages or English language background
- ability to learn quickly on the job
- appropriate DBS clearance, or willingness to obtain and maintain
- high levels of enthusiasm
- good organisational skills
- flexible and reliable
Desirable
- experience of working in a similar position
- good at working with teenagers
- good knowledge of local area
- willingness to take part in IPC’s CPD programme
Hours and Salary
- 15 hours teaching per week (contracts of 2 - 4 weeks starting 13th July 2026)
- paid hourly; rates according to experience and qualifications
