Design Manager – Construction

The Role

We are seeking an experienced Design Manager to join our growing construction team, delivering high‑quality projects from pre‑construction through to completion. You will be responsible for managing the design process, coordinating consultant teams, and ensuring designs are fully compliant, buildable, and delivered in line with programme and commercial targets.

This role is suited to a proactive professional who can manage multiple stakeholders and add value through strong technical knowledge and effective design leadership.

Key Responsibilities

Lead and manage the design process across multiple projects
Appoint, manage, and coordinate external consultants and specialists
Ensure design information is produced on time, to programme, and within scope
Chair and manage design team meetings and technical workshops
Manage design risk, change control, and technical queries
Coordinate planning conditions, Building Regulations, and statutory approvals
Support pre‑construction, tender submissions, and value engineering exercises
Work closely with commercial, construction, planning, and client teams
Ensure BIM and document control processes are followed
Maintain compliance with CDM regulations and Building Safety requirements

About You

Proven experience in a Design Manager (or Senior Design Coordinator) role within construction
Background in main contracting, design & build, or consultancy
Experience delivering projects within commercial / mixed‑use / healthcare / education/ retail.
Strong understanding of the construction design process and UK regulations
Ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills

Qualifications & Skills

Degree / HNC / HND in Construction, Architecture, Engineering, or similar
Knowledge of BIM Level 2 and Common Data Environments
Proficiency in systems such as Revit, Navisworks, AutoCAD, Viewpoint, Asite, or similar
Professional membership (CIOB, RIBA, ICE) desirable
SMSTS and CDM knowledge advantageous
