About the Role
We are looking for a motivated and ambitious Junior Bookkeeper to join our growing team.
This role is ideal for someone who is eager to develop a career in accountancy practice and enjoys working with clients, numbers, and technology. The successful candidate will primarily focus on bookkeeping responsibilities but will also gain valuable experience in payroll, VAT, general accountancy work, and client support.
You will work closely with experienced professionals who will support your development and provide opportunities for progression as your skills grow.
Key Responsibilities
Bookkeeping
- Processing purchase and sales invoices.
- Maintaining accurate bookkeeping records for a range of clients.
- Preparing and submitting VAT returns.
- Performing balance sheet reconciliations, including:
- Bank accounts
- Credit cards
- PayPal
- Shopify
- Amazon
- Other online platforms
- Supporting clients in setting up and improving bookkeeping systems.
- Identifying and correcting bookkeeping errors.
Client Support
- Acting as a point of contact for clients.
- Providing friendly, professional, and proactive customer service.
- Assisting business owners with bookkeeping queries.
- Building positive client relationships through excellent communication.
HMRC Liaison
- Communicating with HMRC on behalf of clients.
- Assisting with tax-related administration and compliance matters.
Payroll Assistance
- Assisting with the processing of payroll for multiple clients.
- Supporting payroll administration and compliance requirements.
General Accountancy Support
- Assisting with sole trader accounts and tax returns.
- Supporting the wider accounts team with client work.
- Developing knowledge across accountancy, tax, and business advisory services.
Problem Solving
- Analysing financial information.
- Identifying unusual transactions, trends, and discrepancies.
- Recommending improvements to processes and systems.

Essential Skills & Experience
- AAT Level 3 or Level 4 student (or equivalent).
- Bookkeeping experience, either in practice or industry.
- Good understanding of bookkeeping principles.
- Strong IT skills and confidence using cloud-based software.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Desirable Skills & Experience
- Experience using Xero.
- Knowledge of QuickBooks or Sage.
- Experience preparing VAT returns.
- Basic payroll experience.
- Previous experience within an accountancy practice environment.
- Ambition to continue professional studies and progress towards qualification.
