About Greenplant
Greenplant is an established plant, tool and events hire company based in Wheatley, Oxfordshire, operating a substantial fleet from depots across Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire. We serve a broad customer base — from sole traders and SMEs through to larger contractors, councils, facilities-management companies and Formula 1 races. The business is on a rapid upward trajectory, and we are creating a senior finance role to take full ownership of the finance function.
The Role
This is a hands-on, sole-charge Finance Manager position reporting directly to the CEO with some part time book-keeping support during a transitional period. You will own the day-to-day finances of the business and, equally, provide the management reporting, budgeting and commercial analysis the leadership team needs to make decisions. The role spans the full picture — from processing the transactions to presenting the numbers at board level — so we are looking for someone equally comfortable in the detail and in the strategic conversation. There will be a transitional period with the current bookkeeper.

Location: Wheatley, Oxfordshire (with occasional travel to depots)
Key Responsibilities
Day-to-day finance & bookkeeping
- Own and maintain accurate, reliable financial records in Xero
- Full bookkeeping, including bank reconciliation
- Sales invoicing — ensuring accurate billing flows correctly from the hire management system (MCS) into Xero
- Credit control, debt collection and management of aged debtors
- Purchase ledger and supplier payments
Compliance & statutory
- Prepare and submit VAT returns (including any overseas / cross-border VAT)
- Manage the monthly payroll process, liaising with the external accountants who run payroll; maintain people and pay data in Breathe HR
- Lead the year-end accounts process in conjunction with the external accountants
- Ensure the integrity of, and continuously improve, the Xero environment and its integration with MCS
Management reporting & planning
- Produce monthly management accounts (profit & loss and balance sheet)
- Cashflow forecasting and management
- Board reports for the CEO
- Regular sales figures and depot performance reporting to the CEO and depot managers
- Build the budget for the coming financial year and report actual performance against it
Commercial & business partnering
- Work with the Commercial Manager on the purchase and disposal of fleet (plant and vehicles), including asset-finance options
- Provide financial analysis of new tenders
- Carry out depot / site financial analysis
- Prepare lending and finance proposals for banks and asset-finance providers

Person Specification
Essential
- Proven experience running a finance function in an SME, ideally sole-charge or close to it
- Full ownership of management accounts, budgeting and cashflow forecasting
- Strong across the complete transactional cycle — sales and purchase ledger, credit control, bank reconciliation and VAT
- Confident producing board-level reporting and explaining the numbers to non-finance colleagues
- Advanced Xero user, able to take an existing setup, assure its accuracy and improve its processes and integrations
- AAT qualified, part-qualified or qualified ACCA / CIMA, or qualified by experience
- Commercially minded, with sound analytical judgement
Desirable
- Experience in plant, tool or equipment hire / rental
- Working knowledge of MCS (or a comparable hire management system such as Syrinx, Point of Rental or inspHire)
- Experience with Dext, Jibble and Breathe HR
- Experience preparing asset-finance or bank lending proposals

Salary: £40,000 - £45,000 per annum, depending on experience
