Job Description
Terrington Hall School is looking to employ 2 new bus drivers to transport students between home and school.
There are 2 available positions, both appointed persons will be expected to work on a part time, term time only basis. The two routes are; Thirsk and York. Applications are encouraged from drivers who live near the route starting points. It may be possible to keep the minibus at home overnight, or at a secure location nearby.
These positions require 10 journeys per week between Monday and Friday, 6.30am to 8.30am and 5.30pm to 7.30pm. Also, 2 out of 3 Saturday mornings 6.30am to 8.30am during term time. In addition to time spent on vehicle management. To start 3rd September 2026 for staff training.
· Responsible for the safety, comfort and welfare of the children
· Carry out driver’s vehicle checks
· Report any vehicle defects, faults, incidents and accidents
· Be responsible for the cleanliness of vehicles, inside and out and ensuring the vehicle is in a clean and roadworthy condition before and after use
· Clean the buses on the outside once a week
· Refuel vehicles as required
· Ad-blue to vehicles as required
· Maintain accurate records of vehicle usage by completing the log sheets and maintain the supply of sheets
· Maintain accurate records of the children using the service each day
· Ensure all documentation is in the vehicle, including the minibus policy
· Maintain and help to promote a good school image, working attire should be worn at all times and kept in a clean and tidy condition
· Work within health and safety guidelines and other guidelines that may be issued from time-to-time
· Liaise with parents regarding routes, timings, arrangements etc.
· Plan alternative road routes to and from school when necessary and keeping parents informed of any changes
· Undertake any other work as reasonably requested by the Bursar or Headmaster
· Be familiar with the school’s Safeguarding Policy and comply with its requirements to
safeguard and protect the welfare of children
Ensure the statutory items of equipment are carried on board the Minibus and are replenished as requried
Training
· Attend and complete relevant training courses as identified and agreed
· First Aid
· Other (compliance) training as required

Experience, Skills and Knowledge
Essential
· Hold a current, clean and valid driving licence
· Capability to maintain accurate vehicle and user records
· Competent to undertake daily and weekly vehicle checks
Desirable
· D1 driving licence
· Previous experience of operating a 15-17 seat minibuses
· Minibus Driver Awareness (MiDAS) accreditation
· Understanding of Section 19 permits
