Job Title: Senior IT Infrastructure Engineer

Job Location: Barrow-in-Furness -Working Onsite

Salary: Up to £58,000 depending on experience

Role Description:

You will have responsibility for supporting, developing and delivering IT services within BAE Systems. The role will look at resolving infrastructure support issues and maintaining, managing and optimising the overall performance and availability of the infrastructure. Customers are our business sectors internal engineering and we work to bridge the gap between infrastructure and software development and drive efficiency through high levels of automation. Whilst technology-delivery is core to our role, so too is the appreciation of how we enable the business and service availability.

Core Duties:

Supporting the organisation’s IT infrastructure across Windows and Linux platforms
Designing, deploying and maintaining servers, storage, networking and security systems
Installing, configuring and deploying IT hardware in line with infrastructure hosting requirements
Investigating and diagnosing issues by gathering information from physical and digital sources, reviewing platform or assembly defects, and identifying all contributing factors
Administering a virtualised production environment using industry-standard tools

Essential Skills:

Proven Wintel systems administration experience (Patching, Active Directory, PowerShell scripting, DNS, DHCP, Windows Server 2016-2025)
Proficient in VMware and Horizon (vCenter/ESXi, vSAN) – Installing, patching, maintenance
Demonstrating a detailed understanding of network architecture, with a focus on Palo Alto firewall and network security technologies
Understanding and applying cyber security methodologies
Installing, configuring and supporting network components
Administering On Premise platforms, including Citrix and thin client technologies

The Infrastructure Engineering team:

You will have responsibility for delivering new enabling capabilities, developing and delivering systems and services, resolving infrastructure support issues and maintaining, managing and optimising the overall performance and availability of the infrastructure. Customers are our internal engineering and product teams and we will work to bridge the gap between infrastructure and software development and drive efficiency through high levels of automation.
