Overview
We are looking for a highly organised and commercially minded Purchasing Assistant to join our fast-growing business. Working within a fast-paced environment, you will support the purchasing function by managing supplier relationships, processing purchase orders, monitoring stock levels, and ensuring products are sourced efficiently and cost-effectively.
This role involves working with multiple suppliers across different countries, currencies, and product categories, requiring strong attention to detail and excellent communication skills. The successful candidate will play a key role in helping the business maximise gross profit, maintain stock availability, and continually improve purchasing efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Raise and manage purchase orders with UK and international suppliers.
- Monitor stock levels and place replenishment orders to maintain optimum inventory levels.
- Source products from multiple suppliers to achieve the best combination of price, availability, and lead time.
- Negotiate pricing, discounts, and commercial terms where appropriate.
- Monitor supplier performance, delivery schedules, and product availability.
- Manage supplier price lists and ensure accurate cost pricing within internal systems.
- Work closely with Sales, Warehouse, and Operations teams to ensure customer demand is met.
- Identify alternative products and suppliers to improve margins and reduce supply chain risk.
- Resolve supplier queries, discrepancies, shortages, and invoice issues.
- Produce purchasing reports and analyse data to support decision-making.
- Assist in developing purchasing processes and controls as the business continues to grow.
Skills & Experience
- Previous experience in a purchasing, procurement, buying, or supply chain role.
- Strong numerical and analytical skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and organisational ability.
- Confident communicator with strong negotiation skills.
- Experience working with multiple suppliers and product ranges.
- Comfortable working with different currencies and international suppliers.
- Strong Excel and computer skills.
- Ability to prioritise workload and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Commercially aware with a focus on profitability and cost control.
