We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced and proactive Regional Health & Safety Advisor / Manager to join our established and growing business, taking a leading role in driving Health & Safety excellence across a diverse portfolio of infrastructure projects throughout Scotland.
Operating across both rail and non-rail sectors, our Scotland business delivers a wide range of civil engineering and infrastructure works, including:

Power and energy infrastructure projects for clients such as SPEN, SSE and DRAX

Substation civil engineering works

Utilities and pipeline infrastructure

Bridge and footbridge construction and refurbishment

Rail infrastructure and maintenance frameworks

This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious Health & Safety Advisor looking to progress into a regional leadership role, or an experienced Manager seeking greater influence across a broad infrastructure portfolio spanning power, utilities, energy, rail and civil engineering.
The Role
As Regional Health & Safety Advisor / Manager, you will serve as the focal point for Health & Safety performance throughout the Scotland region, supporting operational teams delivering a diverse range of infrastructure projects.
You will provide practical guidance, challenge and support to project teams while promoting a positive behavioural safety culture that ensures projects are delivered safely, efficiently and in compliance with legislative, client and company requirements.
Key Responsibilities

Act as a trusted source of professional Health & Safety advice across all regional projects and frameworks.

Support the safe delivery of civil engineering, power, energy, utilities and rail infrastructure projects throughout Scotland.

Promote and embed a positive SHEQ culture through proactive engagement, coaching and behavioural safety initiatives.

Support the development, implementation and continuous improvement of project Health & Safety Plans and Business Management System requirements.

Provide Health & Safety input throughout the project lifecycle, from tender and pre-construction stages through to successful project completion.

Undertake site inspections, audits and assurance activities across operational projects, including occasional night and weekend visits where required.

Monitor compliance with legislation, client standards, company procedures and project-specific requirements.

Ensure corrective actions are appropriately managed and closed out whilst identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.

Develop strong working relationships with clients, principal contractors, regulatory bodies and other stakeholders.

Lead and support accident, incident and near-miss investigations, ensuring lessons learned are effectively communicated and implemented.

Produce regional Health & Safety reports, performance metrics and management review information.

Facilitate safety briefings, workshops, stand-downs and engagement sessions.

Support the management and maintenance of the company's Principal Contractor Licence (Rail) and associated compliance requirements.

Deliver Health & Safety training and awareness sessions to operational and management teams.
-
Undertake RPE face-fit testing and Drug & Alcohol testing (full training provided).

Mentor, coach and support Health & Safety Advisors and operational teams across the region.

Contribute to strategic SHEQ initiatives and business improvement programmes.
About You
To succeed in this role, you'll bring strong practical Health & Safety experience, excellent communication skills and a genuine passion for improving safety performance within demanding infrastructure environments.
Essential Requirements
-
Significant experience in a Health & Safety Advisor, Senior Advisor or Manager role within civil engineering, infrastructure, utilities, power, energy and/or rail environments.

Formal Health & Safety qualification (Degree, Diploma, HNC, HND or equivalent).
-
TechIOSH, GradIOSH, CMIOSH or actively working towards Chartered status.
-
Strong knowledge of construction, civil engineering and infrastructure Health & Safety legislation and best practice.

Experience supporting operational teams on live construction projects.
-
Excellent communication, coaching and stakeholder engagement skills.
-
Ability to influence positive behavioural and cultural change across multiple project teams.
-
Strong investigation, reporting and problem-solving capabilities.
-
Commitment to continuous professional development and maintaining high standards of professional practice.
-
Flexibility to occasionally support works outside standard business hours.
-
Full UK driving licence.
Desirable
-
Experience working on power and energy infrastructure projects, including substations and utility frameworks.
-
Knowledge of clients and standards associated with SPEN, SSE, DRAX or other major utility operators.

Rail infrastructure experience and understanding of Network Rail compliance requirements.
-
Experience within multiple principal contractor environments.
-
Internal Auditor qualification.
-
NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent higher-level qualification.
