Falcons Learning School is seeking an enthusiastic, dedicated, and inspirational English Teacher to deliver high-quality teaching and learning across ages 11-18. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, delivering, and assessing engaging English lessons that enable learners to achieve their academic potential while developing confidence, communication skills, and a lifelong appreciation of literature and language.
The post holder will contribute to the school's commitment to providing a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment where all students can succeed academically, socially, and emotionally.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching and Learning
- Plan and deliver engaging English Language and English Literature lessons in line with the National Curriculum and examination specifications.
- Differentiate teaching strategies to meet the needs of learners with varying abilities, including those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
- Set high expectations for student achievement, behaviour, and engagement.
- Monitor, assess, and record student progress accurately and effectively.
- Provide constructive feedback to support learner development and attainment.
- Prepare students for internal and external examinations.
Curriculum Development
- Contribute to the planning, development, and review of the English curriculum.
- Develop high-quality teaching resources and schemes of work.
- Promote literacy across the curriculum and support whole-school literacy initiatives.
- Keep up to date with curriculum changes, educational research, and best practice.
Student Support and Safeguarding
- Build positive relationships with students, parents/carers, and colleagues.
- Support students' personal development, wellbeing, and academic progress.
- Act as a tutor or mentor where required.
- Maintain accurate records relating to attendance, behaviour, and achievement.
- Adhere to all safeguarding, child protection, and health and safety policies.
Behaviour Management
- Implement the school's behaviour policy consistently and fairly.
- Create a positive learning environment that promotes respect, inclusion, and engagement.
- Address behavioural concerns proactively and effectively.
Professional Responsibilities
- Participate in staff meetings, training, parents' evenings, and school events.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to improve teaching and learning outcomes.
- Engage in continuous professional development.
- Contribute positively to the wider life of the school.
Person Specification
Essential Qualifications
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent teaching qualification.
- Degree in English or a related subject.
Essential Experience
- Experience teaching English within a secondary school setting.
- Experience of planning and delivering effective lessons.
- Experience of assessing student progress and using data to improve outcomes.
- Experience of working with students with diverse learning needs.
Essential Knowledge and Skills
- Strong subject knowledge in English Language and Literature.
- Understanding of current curriculum requirements and examination specifications.
- Excellent classroom management skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to motivate and inspire young people.
- Commitment to inclusive education and safeguarding.
Desirable Criteria
- Experience teaching GCSE English.
- Experience working with learners with SEND, SEMH, or additional learning needs.
- Evidence of leading extracurricular activities related to literacy, reading, drama, or creative writing.
